Hi all. I have a pal who's 17 year old daughter slid into the back of a car. Cops were called for a police report.... Poor gal was cited for failure to maintain a safe distance. Has to appear in court.

It was not a serious collision. No injuries. No airbags. Person she ran into is actually one of her high school pals.....

Question is, how is Ohio court handled? I know here in NY you go in to talk to the District Attorney, or assistant, and they usually cut it down to a parking ticket. Then you go into the Judge and plead guilty to the parking, pay the fine and move on. Here, the Judge would make a 17 year old go to driving school for a bit of re-training. Resulting in no points and a $100 to $200 fine.

How is it in Ohio? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Guess the judge will decide at court.... ? Plead guilty? Not guilty? or No contest?

Nope, no phones allowed in the car.... She was just a new driver who misjudged stopping distance. These things happen. Too many things for these kids to pay attention to and lacking experience. I can barely keep up these days.

Coppers usually don't write a ticket for rear enders around here. I guess they thinkit adds insult to injury. I wasa rear ended by a tractor trailer and no ticket was issued to the other driver. My Son was just rear ended by a Lexus SUV and she didn't receive a ticked either. May be Ohio law/SOP to do that.

She'll just have to take her lumps, like we all have.

Must be a local thing. We always wrote the car that hit from the rear unless there was proveable extogent circumstances. On the NYS MVA104N Police Accident report the officer can assign blame. In the case of a rear end collision, its following to closely or driver inattention. I had written it both ways. The nittwit that drove into the side of my MM in 06 wasn't ticketed either, but was clearly shown as failing to yield the right of way on the MVA report. The jerk that hit my wife and daughter head on while DWI contested the circumstances to his insurance company and it took them six months to accept the blame. That was after he lost his job and was convicted. By his BAC, it was clear he had alcohol in his system when he had been driving a school bus earlier in the day. :shake:
