now it is overheating worse than ever and not sure why. Read the thread posted about burping but it looks like it take all day to do is there a way to know if that is the problem or to do it faster?

couple of things you need to look at. i replaced my thermo first also. no help. burped it. helped out a lot. not the solution. on the cross over tube you need to look at the o-ring. replaced the o-ring and solved the problem. just letting you know what worked for me. hope this helps. you don't want to have the hassle of replacing the head gasket. good luck.

Check your thermostat be sure it is the correctone. If so check in a pot of hot water see that it opens. Install make sure it is pionting in the correct direction. Elevate front of car about a foot. Fill 50/50 mixture via cross over pipe. Start motor turn heater on continue to add fluid as purge bubbles escape. Fill reservor. During process always keep eye on temp gauge. This process may take some time maybe 1/2 hour. Drive car for a day & recheck fluid.

Are you sure it was a problem with the thermostat?

Is the radiator clean?

Water pump OK?

i was guessing with the themostat my initial problem was it would get hot about 10 minutes into driving for maybe a minute then would go back down to normal the rest of the drive. So was guessing that the themostat wasnt opening until it got very hot. Happened every time i started the car and ran it but like i said would only happen once for maybe a minute go away the rest of the drive as long as i didnt turn the car off or have it off that long. Thermostat is in correctly and is correct one i compared them. i may have screwed the burping up when it was hot i opened the resevoir and turned the screw out alittle so that air and some bubbles were escaping but i did not take screw out completely cause i didnt want to get burned.

The symptoms you describe are "classic" air in the cooling system.

Follow these instructions to properly burp the cooling system.

^^^^ What FBM said. ^^^^^ burping can be a PITA. Try doing it with the front of the car inclined up slightly, that may help.

What temp t-stat did you get?

Try to burb the car cooling system while the front end is elevated higher than the rear. Like a hil or even put the front up on jack stands. This will help the bubbles in the system to more towards the front of the car. Some people have had to burb their cars several times to get the air out.
