Last Saturday we went to Atlanta and back no problem. SUNDAY we get into the MM and get 3 miles from home and hear this strange noise. We pull over and check under the hood, nothing wrong. We take him home and change over to the Chevy "Turdho". Long story short...It hesitates to go into reverse,makes a bad sound going down the road, but there is no leakage. I dont know what it is....Rear end or Tranny???? If it is the rear end im going with 3:73s if it is the tranny, how hard is it to convert to a manual? 5 or 6 speed?

Need a bit more info---miles? --any previous work that you know of?......is hesitation short or long for the momentarily shift into rear?.........does it feel like maybe linkage is loose--could be? any new noise forward or in reverse?.any at a certain speed?...when last tranny fluid change?........if known-- same for gears?...stuff like that...and any extras that come to mind............

I would take the car to Anderson Ford and ask for David the SF to review your concern. Tell them that Russ Pryor with Ford recommend them. They will give you a fair price for repairs or at least let you know what you will need.

96000 miles...no known previous Tranny work....long hesitation...i don't know the rest.

I agree 4.10 is the proper gear for these cars. Sounds like a tranny problem, broken band or worn frictions and steels.

I would put money on a bad u-joint. Get those replaced and have the driveshaft balanced and see what happens.

Replacing the u-joint will fix going into reverse problem? :shake::shake::shake:

Yes.
A bad u-joint can cause hesitation and a "clunk" when you're shifting into reverse. I know this for a fact.

I agree 4.10 is the proper gear for these cars. Sounds like a tranny problem, broken band or worn frictions and steels.

+ 3 on the 410's---nothing else will be worthy--which runs about $160-180
for the gears--parts only--

Yep. A bad u-joint can also cause driveline vibrations or loud noises while you're going down the road.
I've had u-joints go bad in two of my panthers and I had the exact same symptoms as the youngrauderlvr is having.
