View Full Version : What tires put out less smoke?

These BFG's are REDICULOUS with the amount of smoke they throw! I just gave the neighbor a small taste of what a big ol Merc can do (he did ask :) ) and I created a cloud 30' high and 6 miles long by the time it finally evacuated my trunk and interior.. Been thinking of finally buying some different tires and upping to the 255's as they look way better and hopefully knock off some of this smoke. The good qualities of the BFG's are wet weather traction and silent tire spin. Anyone found a brand that's fairly quiet, less smoke, and good in wet weather or am I asking for too much?

There's a boatload of variables to consider. The hardness, stickyness, and what surface you are doing it on all will affect the smoke you create.

I have the nittos 420s they feel good and don't make as much smoke as the stockers. But they are just a tad louder.
Maybe someone with the 555 on the 265/50 can chime in on how they feel.

Mine smoke like a freight train, and it's even a DTR.

I should have shot a video. When i checked the mirrors, I was mortified by the smoke carnage made in only a couple seconds.. Worse yet, I returned home to see a super nasty SINGLE mark. Quite embarrassed over here.:hide:

This thread is serious as I don't like leaving a trail of smoke from the scene traced back to my trunk that looks to be on fire miles away, not to mention annoying others. All the cars and different brands of cheap tires i have owned, never once did I have an annoyance like this, hence why i rarely even fry them up from a stop.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.

Yeah, no biggie, just embarrassing.. I've been waiting a long time to enter my third set of clutches! I average 40,000 or so miles each, not too shabby. Easy fix and cheap is always welcome.

Cobra25 has a pair of 295/45-18 on his MM and he says they don't smoke much at all. Maybe the heat, humidity, and tire age have an effect on this.

I've got 295/45R18 Nitto 555 on widened rims. They don't smoke much at all, but I have never done a brake stand. Only flooring it off the line.

I never, ever thought I'd read this on a car enthusiast web site. :hmmm:

I've got 265/50-18 Nitto 555, couldn't tell you if they were quiet or not cause my exhaust is too loud, wet traction is good as long as you're not trying to spin the wheels and I haven't done many burnouts in them but the few I have it wasn't that much smoke but laid rubber on the asphalt.

I have the Nitto 555's 295 /45 R18's. They dont smoke much & when you do a burn out dont leave nothing but very light colored marks. I also feel they are a much
harder tire. Most guy's here like them alot , me not much.

My 555's ride good, handle OK(sidewall flex), BFG's handled better IMO. They will smoke a bunch, and mine leave nasty black marks that hang around for some time.

I don't have to brake stand my car to make them "sit and spin", just nailing the throttle does just fine.:D :burnout:

Hey biscuits I think my next tire of choice will be NITTO 555's

They seem to be pretty good and most of the members here that have them love them! :lovies:

I really like the 555. Though technically not an all season tire, I drive them in the rain and have had no problems.

I like the 555 265/50 18 setup. They feel gripper than stock, I haven't cooked them up good yet so I can't really comment on smoke. However I like the Nittos

Well this is quite strange! Most on here agreeing on the same tires. Looks like the 555's might just win here. A few seemed less than happy, any major concerns?

Another thing to consider is the pavement of choice for the burnout...ive noticed this can drastically affect how much rubber is being ripped off per second and in turn how much smoke is being created.

I also failed to mention that the use of brakes and/or linelock were not used in the making of said smoke curtain. :)

Well I still need to wear out the other half of the tread, anybody with mosquito problems at your CITY? LOL

Hey biscuits is your limited slip going out???

Going out? LOL Nothing goes out on my ride friend, I destroy all that is weak! Yep, smoked my second set of clutches right out in front of my house to remind me DAILY! Talk about not a good look... Not bad though at 45,000 a set! For now I will probably just throw in some carbon clutchs. Whole new rear coming very soon, but kinda sick of spending money on her right now, need to start saving for Christmas.
