View Full Version : Head Repair by dealer
Hi Ho;
As many know my car is in need of a drivers side cylinder head repair or replacement.
My question is: Who has had a cylinder head replaced or repaired by a dealer? Were you satisfied and, if not a warrantied item, would you tell me the cost? Here or in a PM.
There are few non-dealer choices in my local area and I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling from them.
I'm weighing my options on a road trip.
Thanks,
MMBLUE

Try to see if you can get a used one (head) from a member here and get installed. I've been in your situation before. They'll tell you you can do one and not the other yada yada yada. Best bet, put a used on and save your money for a new motor.

Considering that dealers rip off the owners with $1100 LCM repair charges when it really costs $ 50.00, I'd steer away from a dealer touching my car. What I can't do myself, I'll trust members of my car clubs for their abilities. A few of them own high end speed shops.

If you have any doubt I would RUN FAST from that dealer. I had a plug blow out and my local dealer and totally F' my head:eek:. Took it to the :banana:Z-man:banana: and the rest was history. I think he is more machine than man.

Keep in mind that any dealer is going to send your head to a machine shop (which u can do your self) and save money!
no need for a middle man.

Pat, at least you got to MVIX--you lucky dog---hope the damage isn't too great--replied to your PM--will definitely call or see Kevin tomorrow morning before noon--they have been good to me , but ask a lot of questions before you make a commitment. The parts department guys know the difference between a GM and a MM--they are the local Cobra--Shelby dealer and service facility. Kevin is the Fleet Service Manager---don't even talk to any one else. Can you still make Centerville ?????? Will really miss seeing you and Patricia---got my fingers crossed, Maury

While I agree that some dealerships / mechanics are ripoff artists, the LCM replacement costs has to go on Fords shoulders. Their design was inadequate as is the replacement part. Most mechanics do not or can not troubleshoot down to the component level, and if they could they wouldn't have the tools and skills to make the modification. If they did I wouldn't be repairing the number of LCMs I have.

I had mine replaced, right before my Power Train Warranty expired...I went to the Ford Dealership in Paramus NJ...Explained to them exactly what is wrong and how i diagnosed the problem...They agreed that I have the problem....I was able to use the Warranty..Make sure you check the car out for any scratches on the quarter panels....I complained to them bout it....they fixed that for free too....:beer:
