Great writeup, but I would probably only attempt this with someone who has experience. I'm sure it sounds more complicated then it really is.
I really want a set of lopey cams in the car. ;)

You have to be careful with "Lopey" cams because they can kill the power where a Marauder needs it, but when spec'd correctly they can work, for lack of a better word, "Awesome."
The car in the following video has off the shelf Comps installed at my lobe centers. It made great peak and mid range power but the duration is a bit long for a Marauder. I could spec some cams with less duration that would sound just as good and better suit a Marauder:

Specs for cams that would work great with stock springs would look something like this: 220/218, .425" lift, 109LSA with a 3 degree advance
The cams in the video are 226/222, .425", 110LSA with a 4 degree advance.

So the Comp Cams #106060 should work well in a Marauder....?

Great cams when installed at the right lobe centers. They are ground with a 116 lsa with a 2 deg advance which makes the lobe centers (LC) 114/118. Those LCs will produce little tq and mid range power and will not work well in a heavy, automatic trans car. Advancing the intake cams to 105 while keeping the exhaust at 118 will increase tq, mid range power and also peak power. Idle will be relatively smooth and tq will come on quickly.

THATS IT, I am driving my car to you next summer and having you degree my cobra cams.
I figure one tank of gas there and one tank of gas back is well worth having something with thorough knowledge do the job. Plus I can visit Dayton.

If you guys have the proper tools, if you just follow the instructions in that Comp Cams "intake centerline method" write-up, you can do it yourselves.

Hmm Continental cams have 202 Deg duration.... Betchya one can score those from a picknpull!!
Edit... Looks like 99 Continentals only... 2000-2002 have a different part# not listing the duration etc..

...or maybe I could go to St Louis to visit some friends and get in some car work.

Not to necro a thread but I have two things, one to add the other to ask.
Concerning the 2000 up Continental cams, I've torn apart a 2000 and a 2001 engine and both have the YF3E-6A270/271 cams. So, they are 2001 Cobra cams.
That being said, I am looking at the writeup sheet and it says "114 LSA no advance." To make sure I am understanding this correctly, that means that both intake and exhaust cams should be degreed to 114*? What is your thoughts on advancing the intake cam 4 degrees as I've been told to do a few times.
Just for background's sake, building a MK VIII block, Continental heads, and marauder intake and dropping it into my 03 P71.

Excellent info. I would like to see spec comparison on 96-98 Mark8 LSC intake cams vs those from 96-98 cobra. When I built my teksid the intake cams looked identical in size to the 96-98 cobra intake cams I was going to use, except for the part number (FL6E vs FZ6E I believe). If you have this info I would appreciate it.

The stock LC of those cams are 119/110 so the sheet you are looking at is incorrect. I created it and have no idea why I put the statement about "no advance" in there.
How high do you plan to spin it?

you cannot "see" a difference of even 10 degrees or .050" lift.

It's more of curiosity, I already had a great friend degree my cams, he's a member here and very experienced. I also have someone looking for 96-98 intake cams, and given how they look *identical* it would be nice to know the actual specs of them in comparison to see if they could be sold to my buddy.

The attached doesn't list specific part numbers for those found in the 98 LSC unless I overlooked. Just for the 96-98 cobra intake.

All mark 8 cams are the same.

So to make sure I understand, because this IS the internet.... 98 mark8 intake cams are the same as 96-98 cobra intake cams?

I assume you were asking me. I'm not racing or anything. I am just looking to make it a more powerful (and fun) daily driver. The internals are still the stock cast ones. I plan on keeping stock(ish) shift points on the transmission and will probably limit the revs to 5500 or so.

Camshaft choices change when using a PD blower, turbo or N2O.

You have to be careful with "Lopey" cams because they can kill the power where a Marauder needs it, but when spec'd correctly they can work, for lack of a better word, "Awesome."
:agree:
It took Jeff at Mo's 3 days & some dynos to degree my stage 3 Comp Cams.:bows:
Just degreeing picked up 40 foot pound of torque at the bottom end.:)
