I think he's referring to the Cobra H.E. he bought for his Eaton swap.

That's the one....just bought it from fordnut.....it goes in front and it's like26x6x3.....the reason I'm selling it right after buying it is all SC cheeseheads fault.....He said it's no good....I guess I'll be buying the frozen boost...That Cheesehead...

I would hardly say that the cobra heat exchanger is NO GOOD! :argue:
Works fine for me and I'm putting 500 to the wheels!!!
Sherman also had it on his 10 second marauder.
But then again what do I know???
At the end of the day it's your car so do what you want.
Enjoy your modding.

Errrrr, I don't recall saying the OEM H.E. is "no good," I think I indicated that a Frozenboost Type 100 will provide a lot better cooling.
You can certainly run the OEM H.E. lotsa guys do (as Doomie noted), that was the route I was gonna take until the Z-man turned me onto the Frozenboost.

I actually had an OEM Cobra heat exchanger myself but I bought the FB type 100. I just threw the Cobra HE in the scrap metal pile last Friday.

Not confusing, just options.
An OEM Cobra heat exchanger, a Frozenboost Type 100, or other brands for that matter, all do the same thing: they function as a radiator to remove heat from the coolant that flows through the SC intercooler.
The big difference between the OEM Cobra and the Type 100 is size, which equates to cooling capacity. Larger size = more cooling tubes with more surface area to draw off heat which yields improved cooling capacity.
On back to back drag strip runs, in slow moving traffic, on hot days, or re-starting a warm engine that's heat sinked, a Type 100 will out-perform an OEM Cobra heat exchanger, and will drop IAT temps more rapidly than the OEM. That said, on a 100* day, either unit is going to struggle to keep IAT much below 130 -140*, but that's the nature of the beast with an Eaton blower.
Anyway, lower IAT will let the engine run more timing which will give you more power, so why not try and maximize H.E. capability to enable that improved performance? That's what I was referring to when I recommended the Type 100 to you. If I had to choose between spending $50 for an OEM H.E. or $150 for a Frozenboost Type 100 that will out-perform the OEM hands down, the choice, at least for me, would be pretty simple.
If you wish to run an OEM heat exchanger on your car, it will certainly perform it's design function, so the choice is entirely up to you. If you want to save the $100 bucks to keep the overall cost of the swap down, or if you'd rather invest the $100 elsewhere for other upgraded parts, then have at it; as I stated earlier, not confusing, just options. :)

The Cobra HE is fine for what it was designed for, when you run higher boost levels is when it becomes more important.

The Type 100 fits real nicely behind the grille, I haven't done any measurements, but thinking another 3 inches thickness could get a little tight. You prolly would see some benefits from the additional cooling surface, but the Type 100 should be plenty adequate for your application, bugsy.

Agreed. Higher boost = higher IAT, so anything to pull the heat out more efficiently is a good thing.
