Problem
I can't find a dealer who will make two valet keys for me. (I never got a valet key from the dealer I bought the car from in Indianapolis. The guy says he 'll do something and has failed to do so each time.) According to my local dealer in Massachusetts unless I buy about 20 key blanks (about $600), they won't do it. I asked them to give me a name of a dealer that is much larger and they don't have that information. The local Ford rep's name is not given out to the public. This is amazing!
I checked with local key companies and the valet key is not even listed as available.

wouldnt you beable to use a regular blank key and you would just have to find out the valet key cut number? Its my understanding the its not the chip in the key that makes the differnce, but the cut.

If you got the key codes then a locksmith of L&M, Ford dealer can cut them for you. If you did not get the key codes then the selling dealer should be able to get them for you.

Check Ebay - I saw someone selling blank Marauder keys and offering to throw in the valet as well. If you also supply the code then he'll cut the key for you.
Sorry I dont have the link right now - I'll look it up later tonight if you cant find it.

I believe that the valet key has a thicker blade so it will not go into other locks (trunk button and glove box.) The chip is the same as is the cut. This is the way it is on my 300A

since you didn't get one with your car when you bought it, and they are supposed to include one, Why don't you demand one from Ford?
I'm guessing you bought the car new

Very true, RC, but some aftermarket alarm systems, (mostly systems that provide remote start features) require a PATS valid key to be placed inside the alarm brain box.
Rather than sacrifice a full access PATS key, installers presume the valet key is less valuable to the owner, and use that instead. This is an assumption that follows "right handed world" thinking, where assumptions made for mass conveinence, do not please everyone.
I admit there have been times I wished I had a valet key to give up to a "Rocky" look-a-like valet, but my secondary "survival" instinct interrupted that and told me to look for another way to park my MM for a few hours. I haven't been disappointed yet, but one never knows...
Here's an idea...If all it takes to get valet keys is a purchase of 20 or more keys, someone start a poll, or an e-mail inventory, and when 20 promises are collected, someone buy the 20 keys. You can get the key cut almost anywhere, no codes required for that, and the PATS programming process is in your MM owner's manual.
Like other small volume projects we have done here, all this takes is a little trust between friends, and a solid promise to carry through on your word. Everyboby interested can win.

That is exactly the reason. the valet key allows a person to start and drive the veh: but won,t let you into the glove box or trunk...

For $600??? That's $30 each. Why would they charge so much for a quantity purchase?

That's it? That's the whole point?

Well there is a thought. If he has remote start he could just check for that, have another key programmed and switch it out.

As usual the website is fantastically helpful.
I'll digest the info and then let everyone know what action I'm taking.
Many thanks to all of you
