Hi everyone, im looking to buy a Marauder here soon maybe even as early as this weekend. I come from a family with a loooong history of Ford loyalty. I was wondering if any could point out any specific things I could look for when buying a used Marauder, or any potential downfalls they may have.

I have been thinking about buying a fun car for some time, I was initially interested in a newer Charger R/T until I saw a Marauder one day and was reminded how sweet they looked. Being a Ford guy and a big fan of the full size Fords that changed my mind.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the one im interested in, im planning on taking it for a test drive tomorrow. :burnout:

Welcome to the site!

That car looks pretty sharp and the price is very reasonable for a car with those miles and options. Look for wetness around rear and, of course, on the engine. Also look for smoke at start-up. While not too uncommon it will lead to a fix down the road. Make sure all lights work and check that air moves from floor to vent to defrost as it should (a few common issues owners run into).
Good luck!

The earlier '03 had a problem with "soft" rear axles, often were worn enough to be noisy before 50K mi, listen for noises from the rearend... Assuming the dealer stock no is the last six of the VIN, it's likely early enough to have issues...

That one has been listed for a month now, orig the price was $13,995, guess no one was biting...

More than just a few have been replaced, was a common issue on all earlier '03 Marauders, Crown Vic and Grand Marquis...

A lady that owns one here in the local area ran hers till the right rear axle broke, it had around 100K at the time... A friend who has a small shop replaced the whole rear axle assembly as it damaged the housing as well...

The dealer said not many people have looked at it. And the few that have dont really know what it is other than a fancy Grand Marquis... My dad is a mechanic with 40+ years of knowledge, ill have him keep an ear out for the rear end noises when we go for a ride tomorrow.

That's probably true of 99.9% of the general population... Only one person in my immediate neighborhood had any idea what mine is, neighbor across the street thought it was a police car...

Heres another question for you all. 71k is the sport package (VIN code) for a CV right? Which is the CV version of a Marauder right? Just wondering. I saw that somewhere maybe even here but now I can find it.

A P71 is the police Crown Vic, the Sport package is either 73 or 74 I believe...

There was also a Grand Marquis with same options as the Sport CV...

Welcome to the site!! As for the rear end problem I just had the right rear tire come off as it was unloaded from the tow truck, the axle had busted. There is a Rear Axle Bearing Service Kit PN: 3W1Z-4A109-AA that cost me only $521.00. When I used the repair shop name they gave me a big discount and it only cost about $350.00. That kit has everything. Two axles, bearings, seals, and three containers of lube but no friction modifier. So it is not that much to just go ahead and fix it. But the shop charged for labor and some extra parts and the total was $1050.00. Pretty cheap insurance for anyone with an early 03. Good luck on the search.

I went for a 2nd look and a test drive today. The car has a sweet ride and hit 100 on the interstate without even shruging. The problems with it are.

The headliner is sagging bad and it looked like a critter had found away inside the headliner and had chewed big holes in all4 corners of it especially above the sunvisors.
The FM on the radio didnt work.
A big scrach that went to the yellow undercoating on the front bumper.

The radio is not a big deal I would replace it anyway. The bumper could be fixed as well fairly easy. The problem was the headliner. The used car dealer said he could take care of it and it would only be $150, my dad was guessing $500. I told him I would deal with the problems but he insisted no and also said he wouldnt come down off the price (11,900). He also said that for me to ask him to go any lower would "insult" him!!! He lost me at that point. A few minutes later he asked what I was thinking to offer (10,500) I told him no, I dont want to insult you. So I wash my hands of him. :flamer: So if anyone want to deal with a dumbass used car salesman hit him up! I found another one listed on CL that I hope to see tomorrow. Hopefully its clean and doesnt have a lot of miles on it.

Dude, what's up? I'll go with and you can compare a real Marauder to some ****z a used car lot is trying to dump on people. I refuse to believe you can insult a used car salesman, they go to used car salesmen counter-insult school, they can handle it, lol.

You can buy the the foamed back headliner material and redo them fairly easily... Seen some of my car lot friends do it themselves for probably $50-$75 in material and a couple hours time...
