Need Advice...
A while back I noticed a little grease leaking down the left rear axil next to the rearend housing... We assumned that it was from the breather or vent tube and the Dealer flushed and changed the rear end grease... the leak appears to still be there.
What should the Dealer check to fix this....I don't want them to fool me into buying something I don't need...
All advice welcome...:bows:

If it's coming out if the vent tube then either it was over filled or something is creating too much pressure inside (which is not good). Do you have an aftermarket diff cover on?

leaking down the left rear axil next to the rearend housing... Only thing near there is the fill plug...unless the axle tube is cracked. Spray the area down with Brakleen and see where it's coming from...

No...but there is a 4:10 gear installed 50,000 miles ago...

I'll just have to take it back to the dealer and see what they find... I hope they are honest enough to tell me what's really happening....
Thanks for y'all's input...

Did you try cleaning everything off and then drive it around for a few days and recheck it?

Mine was leaking after I had the diff cover replaced to a nicer looking unit....replaced the fluid with RP....noticed it leaking....took it to the dealership for an oil change and asked if they could make sure the diff cover was tight and top it off with my RP fluid....they did at no charge and I cleaned it up and no leaks since.

Hope they filled via the stock fill hole and not the one on the diff cover if yours has one. Diff cover one allows 1/2 quart more but it's too much for the axle and will puke out the vent hose. Ask me how I know. lol

Took my 2004 Marauder to dealer this morning... Mechanic said he could find no reason for vent/breather to leak like it was doing... he ordered the vent for the big mustang to replace it with...probably install Monday...hope this works... sure glad it wasn't something bad (expensive) to fix....
