View Full Version : What does your significant other think of your Marauder?

I would like to hear from my fellow peeps what your significant other thinks, feels, love or hates about your Marauder.

After almost 3 years, supercharger installed, Wilwoods, Addcos, and J-mod she still thinks of it as a grandpas car. She love how nice it's rides and how comfortable it feels. Just hates how big it is and is not a fan of the basic look of the Grand Marquis grandpa stigma look of the Mighty Merc. I see her cut a smirk at times when I step on the go go pedal.

My wife took the Merc to work yesterday and while at the gas station, some questionable socialites Tax dollar sucking degenerates came over by her and was asking about the car. Needless to say she was a little freaked.

My daughter tells me it's a fast cool grandpas car. When her and I are doing burouts and WOT runs she will yell. "This is not a drill people!!" oh that. Cracks me up.

What about you guys?

She loves the MM, the ride, the comfort, and understands the unique character of the car.

She likes the people that she has met through the MM events that we have attended together.

She hates all the time I spend on washing, waxing and cleaning "The Damn Thing" and obsessing over it. But ..... she understands why I do. :D

She knows where I am and what I am doing when I'm in the MM.

Neither of us had seen our DTR until the day we picked it up, 7+ years ago. She screamed in my ear excitedly "IS THAT OUR CAR?" Loves it more than I do and I'll be gone before it is...

The wife was like whatever at first then noticed how many people "notice" the black taxi cab with chrome rims...but over the years and thousands in go fast parts she now loves it! She will drive and mash the go pedal for instant stress relief. Just last night after dinner on the way home she exercised the this very same procedure...lol

My wife hates it and wants me to sell it to buy something newer. She thinks its an old peoples car.

But she also likes the attention it gets and finally admitted it was a cool looking car. She does get scared whenever I nail it. I'm afraid she will rip the inner door panel off one of these days.

I WAS married when I bought my MM almost 9 1/2 years ago, she never liked the grandpa car, and said that I loved it more than her. (There's your sign! Jealousy) Fast forward, the girlfriend loves the car,:up:. That sealed the deal!

She hates it.. Says I wash it to much...

Melanie hates my car and it is apparant my car hates her. Constantly shutting her hair in the door, corner of door into the boobie trick, and so on... She mostly doesn't like it because she is scared of how I feel about it, therefor she is scared to drive it or park it somewhere. (First and only major scratch was installed at her place of work in '04). BUT, she does really well with trying to show interest, and it shows. She has learned so much by hearing me talk and watching me work. It's like dealing with a blow up doll. It keeps me happy, and poses no real threat...

This post is rated E for everyone.

My wife shook her head after I (unintentionally) totaled the Grand Marquis and went looking for a Marauder.

Shes used to driving in the GM with the 2.73's, 70mm MAF, untuned 2v motor...

Now, with the Marauder and the few mods done to it, she understands and appreciates the differences btw. the two cars and enjoys it.

Like with Justbob, shes learned a lot from me telling her about the things I learn about the car. (which most of the credit goes to everyone here on this "site")

It's funny too cause she even knows more then some Mustang owners that she works with!

And now I'm shaking my head at her cause after painting my calipers red, she wants her Fusion's calipers painted bright pink...

Joey and Bob you already know I gotta hide the keys from the wife! You'll see her driving me around because she constantly bothers me to drive Merideath and I eventually give in! I blame her Dad... Mrs. was a tomboy growing up and was Daddy's girl. According to the Mrs her Dad was a gear head out in Hawaii and took her down the racing track several times. She remembers her Dad telling her that if Mom asks don't tell her where she went. Lol, she didn't lie to mom or would be so excited that she forgot to tell Mom something else, hence a fight began between Mom and Dad. When i finally met the Father in law all we did was talk cars and i felt right at home, btw thanks for the blessing Pops! Father in law has owned several Chevelles and Impala SS in his day! We're actually thinkin' of purchasing something similar or a SB MARAUDERin the future. I'll say it again... We were minutes short of purchasing Rider90's MARAUDER, but BradleyG ruined that for us. LMAO, Brad you'll never hear the end of it!

Update: Mrs. Confirmed a 1980's quote when she was a child. Her dad said, "Don't tell your mom where we went, if she asks tell her we went to get ice cream!" -Papa Wayne-

Momma loved the DTR and the Blue, that is until I started doing mods to the DBP.

At first, the 4.10 gears and tune were "annoying"; she hates the car since I got the "stupidcharger" installed..., but she enjoys going to the meets. My daughter hates it too (she's the one who coined the name for the Eaton), she's afraid of it. :shake:

Any guesses as to what E-Dubb thinks about it? ;) -----> :D

My wife isn't really into cars but knows how much I love my 2011 Mustang GT and 2003 MM. She just kind of shakes her head whenever the Marauder is brought up by friends or family. I don't think she really gets what makes it such a cool car, but takes my word for it. We usually drive it on road trips and she enjoys the comfy passenger seat. It scares the hell out of her when I gun it and the tires break loose shifting into 2nd (thats the 4.10s, J-Mod, and tune doing their thing) :burnout:

My wife pretty much thinks if ya can't haul dirt in it, and you have to go around puddles it's a POS.
That said she has a 96 F150 with 219000 on the clock that I maintain mechanically but refuse to wash/wax other than when I 1st bought it for her and said "take a mental picture of it now because it will never look this good again" I was right.
When we dated, we went to car shows and the drag strip.
Now not so much. If she knew I was a co-sponsor of SSHS she would have a fit!

My answer - I WANT MY OWN DAMN IT!!!! I love the car! Some of you mentioned "money pit" - Let's just say I've spent more $ on "gifts" for car than I've bought myself shoes over the past 2 years and that says a LOT! Lol! Love the car. Love how loud it is (wish it were louder). Love the meets. Love the track runs although they make me nervous. Love the people I've met because of the car. Did I mention I love the car? :D

All you need is a SB and you'll have the complete set!!! You're my hero... :marauder:

Not that I care, but my INsignificant other was impressed the first time I showed up with it to see my kids. I'm pretty sure that on the inside she has many levels of envy, jealousy, and rage about me buying it....or at least I hope so. (okay, so I do care a little)

I love it and my kids love it and that's what is important. :burnout: Every time I'm in Asheville with them, they ask if I'm going to go through the tunnel! One time my son (he's 9) said to my daughter (she's 6), "Holy crap Miranda! He got it up to 6!" (Talking about the tach). Yeah, I had a BIG smile on my face....

She thinks it's cute how geeked I get to go to events, I excited I get when I talk about people on the boards, and she totally understands my obsession and likes the car to boot

The only downside, she likes the Mustang better, but I can deal with that

First wife had a take it or leave it attitude about Defyant Marauder. She was there during most of the modding and evolution to where the car is and was quick to register her objections. But for awhile there, I thought she was seriously going to get her own, paint it purple w/ purple flames! Someone did an awesome photoshop for her and she almost went for it.

My second wife loves it. Says this car is an essential part of me and not having it would leave a void. I came close to selling it several years ago. The deal fell through over her overwhelming objections. That says a lot.

My ex-girlfriend was ok with the Marauder when I bought it. It was the Crown Vic she didn't like at first. Then she was ok with it. I'm sure she was ok with the Marauder since the get go because its an "upgrade" to what I was driving (the crown vic, she hated boxy cars). Mine or hers? I bought my 03 new long ago. My wife loves it, but won't drive it for fear of scratching it or something happening to it while she's driving it. This summer I bought a silver 04. I got a great deal on it, and the plan was for it to be my daughter's car. She's not old enough to drive yet, so my wife has ABSOLUTELY taken this car over. She enjoys driving it. It's old, cheap, and dinged up enough that she's not worried about anything happening to it.

It's funny - every time, and I mean EVERY time I'm talking to her on her cell and she's driving the car, I hear the car in the background, winding out with her foot deep into it! And I haven't even put a JLT on it yet!

Prior to the Marauder I had a 63 corvette that I restored & customized. I made the mistake of sharing the cost of the build. Long story short she looks at the Marauder as just transportation. I don't discuss anything related to mods with her.

Well she probably doesn't like that refer to her as it, but after two weeks it's opinion has little effect. Lol j/k

I had to buy my girl a NEW car just to get her out of the MM! She's always happy when its time for her car to get serviced so we can switch cars.:burnout:

I didn't buy an MM, but when I pointed out to my wife what I almost bought, her comment was........."old man's car".

But, except for her LS8 Sport, she's not too wild about my 03 TBird, Galaxie, or 94 TBird.

She wants a Jag.

Fat chance!

Wife really liked it until 2kids later and 3 S/C MM's later! She doesnt like the math thing!! Cars w/mods +$$$$$ kids/saving for college+$$$ I guess she is the more sensible one.. Seeing I cant just have a nice car and not drop at least 7-8k in it.

Todd was happy for me when we got the marauder. He found it for me. He knows I like fast cars and he is just happy that he can fit in it! I usually have the nicer of the vehicles, but he is fine with it.

Mine is OK with it...

She did comment I have no problem keeping up with your '69 Cobra Jet Fairlane, when driving the Marauder...
