Great day for racing except for all the ricers spilling oil all over the track and breaking down!
First run....
I lined up against a 2011 Camaro V-6 as soon as I pulled out of tech, I decided to try a different way to launch the car. Normally I would flash the convertor off the line and this always seemed to work the best for me. Today I figured I'll trying stalling the convertor at 2500 RPMs and see how that works. Also while I was in the pit area I put on my A/C to cause I was warm sitting on line well at the end of the track I realized that I left it on!! :o
That run on a heat soaked engine, AC on, and a stalled launch was a 13.995@96mph with a 2.052 60ft time to the Camaro's 14.821@98.56 and a 2.324 60ft time. I hooked up, he spun.
Here's the race......
r710MiRT-xM
Second run....
I had a 2 hour cool down before making this pass so I knew it was going to be a chance to break my record of 13.639. I lined up against a Pontiac G8 GT with a intake on it. He never ran at the track so I figured it would probably be a great race. I do my burnout in 1st gear and then roll up to stage. On the last yellow I leave with a .146 RT to his .426 so I jump out the hole quick and saw on the board that I pulled a 1.941 60ft time so I knew this was going to be a fast run right up until I heard my engine bouncing off the limiter and I then noticed that I never took the car out of 1st gear after my burnout! :mad2::mad2:
I put it in drive and tried to salvage the run with a 14.372@96 mph. to the G8s 13.414@105mph. If I would have completed my run without this hiccup it probably would have been a neck and neck race to the very end.
Here's the run....
cJB62e6tPdU
Final run....
Another ricer blew up on the track and shut us down for another hour and a half. So my car once again cooled down to where I wanted it so I knew that I would need to make this run count no matter what. The same 2011 Camaro from the first run wanted another run at me with a different driver this time. We lined up and I did my usual 1st gear burnout (and put it back in drive!), the Camaro did his best John Force impression and just blasted the tires off the back of the car to make sure it hooked. We lined up and I once again left him at the line with a .146 RT to his .426 RT and I pulled another 1.940 60ft time and at the end of the 1/4........
New best time of 13.595@99MPH!!!! :banana2:

Thanks John. Temps were in the 60s so I wanna try some 40-50 degree runs with my race gas tune and see how I do then. I have a chance to run in Dec so I may get a chance to dip a little lower into the 13s.

Congrats Paul!!!
So are you the only one left in the OEM engine -> 12s race??
A few observations:
1: Amazing how that bloated Camaro actually makes a Marauder look small.
(I'm glad that the new GT500 will beatch slap the ZL1 back to the drawing board)
2: Ricer blowing up and shutting down the track for hours.
That is such a regular occurence, that those turds should be banned from the track and left to kill each other on back streets while trying to immitate The Fast & the Furious.
I've seen so many POS Hondas bouncing off the rev limiters while spinning their front tires (FAIL!) just before puking 4 rods out onto the starting line.
Honda boys.....in the garage, keep your weedeater toys!
3: Pontiac G8 sedan...:2thumbs:
Another great car that was discontinued wayyyy too early.
I'd like a G8 GXP 6 speed in the garage next to my Marauder.

Hoping to break my 13.6 record.
What are your mods? I've been itching to work with someone in getting their stock block, n/a MM into the 12s.
-96-98 cobra cams will knock off a couple tenths
-degreed to 106/114 they'll knock even more time
What's your RPM at the end of the 1/4?
Stock cam timing is a killer and the only reason these cars need a lotta gear.

My mods are in my garage link in my sig. I been wanting cams, but the money/labor vs power factor makes it a deal breaker unless I find a great deal on installation and parts. I don't have confidence in myself to open this thing up and be able to degree the cams correctly. At the end of the 1/4, I never really looked at the tach, I imagine in the 5500 RPM range. Once I get this tank of bad gas out of the car and I can actually drive it, I'll have a accurate answer. I was considering going with a set of 4.30's for the rear and then play with my tire sizes to get some more RPM out of it. My times are very consistant, my 60' and 1/8 mile times are identical after 2 runs. Just what would have been my best run ended up being my worst due to driver error. :o
I'm open to suggestions and ideas to get this thing into the 12's.

If you're running a stock diameter tire the 4.10s will not be enough gear to get you into the 12s. Cobra cams installed at the LCs I recommend will get you much closer but more gear will be needed. I'd like to see the RPMs at the end much closer to 6300. If it were my car would not hesitate to go with 4.56s because the stock diameter tire makes them like a 4.30 in a mustang (26" dia tire).
I need to change my settings so that I see sigs.

I can now see your mods. More gear or more stall are needed. A ported intake will also help.
I recommend cobra intake cams or custom intake cams and a ported intake before going swapping gears. Those two mods alone could reduce ET 3 to 5 tenths.

I have that short runner intake from Naz performance that ended up breaking on me twice. On the dyno it gave little peak hp but made the power band straight with no drop off.
If I go with a smaller tire, what would you suggest? I can also adjust the MPH I shift at. Pops (John) told me that shifting around 6900 would put the RPM in the sweet spot and maintain my power in between gears.
I priced out some cams from comp, and the price was close to $1200 just for the cams, then installation and finding someone who can degree them properly would jack up the costs.
I wanna make another run in the cooler temps and perhaps try out my race gas tune to really see where I'm at.

Custom intake cams that use stock springs would run $600 and provide a 30rwhp gain. Comps from RPM outlet cost $950.
A 6900rpm shift point is okay for the 1-2 shift because of the big drop in RPM to 2nd gear. 2-3 should be in the 6300 range.
With the MM's weight you should be able to hook with a 245/45/17DR. Any 26" dia DR will work, the greater the sidewall the better. I can get my 245/45/17s to hook and my Mach is much lighter.
Are you still using the short runner?
Drive it to Ohio and leave it for the winter.

I have to get the short runner fixed. The welds cracked yet again and I was quoted $450+shipping to have it repaired.
I have some tires in my shop or I'll try to find a cheap set to try. I guess change the tire diameter in the tune?

Here's how my power curve looks with only a K&N and 96-98 cobra intake cams at 107.5 and the exhaust cams at 112. It still has a stock intake and exhaust manifolds. It also has 4.10s and a Circle D "2C" converter.
As you can see, the longer duration cams do not hurt tq when installed correctly.
Future mods will include small diameter pulleys, small diameter damper, LT headers, ported intake, TB and RAI/CAIs. I'll dyno after each mod and post the results. BTW, the engine in my Mach was removed from a wrecked MM in Indianapolis.

I was just kidding. lol These are the old BFG tires they you must john force burnout to get really warm and sticky. The newer ones you don't have to so much and I think have a better contact surface. Could get a set of the new tires and mount them on steelies, old 99-04 16" V6 wheels or even 2005-2010 16" V6 wheels.
