The 1st picture, my coworker and drilled some 20' holes and took soil samples inside a building. Reason being. Our client was going to install very large, heavy machinery. So our company uses the soils samples to develope the foundations for the machines to sit on. We engineer foundations for all structures, houses, bridges, signs, sky scrapers, small to large buildings, water towers, tower lines, etc etc. I'll drill and sample anywhere from 10' to 200' for a structure.

The other pictures. I was rock coring through shale and coal down to 400'. The client was hoping to find dolamite rock so he could open a rock quarry. I love rock coring. It's a technical very fast drilling method. Things can go wrong in a big hurry if a driller is not paying attention. You really have to watch the gauges, pump pressure and listen to the drill.

The last two pictues. A client of ours wanted me to drill 70' holes near the Chicago sanitary and ship canal. They want to use the holes to monitor Asian Carp eggs. So since bedrock/dolamite is at the surface. I had to drill with a 6" downhole air hammer. I use an air compressor that pumps out 1700cfm's at 350psi to actuate the downhile hammer to drill quickly through bedrock. The cfm's actuate the hammer while the psi cleans out the hole. That's why you see all the water coming out of the hole. The more cfm's and psi I have. The faster I can drill into bedrock.

The job I'm on now. I'm drilling and installing ground water monitoring wells at a former oil refinery. I do a lot of environmental drilling and wells.

Like this job. I was drilling and installing inclinometer wells that ranged from 30' to 70'. The wells tell you if the ground is shifting or a structure is shifting. In this case. I had to drill on the side of a damn that has been failing for a long time.

I foreget which dept in the state of Illinois hired us. But they are concerned about the Asian Carp finding their way to the Desplains River and other natural water ways. They wanted to see if by any chance the egss could "Magically" make their way through the very fi e cracks in the bedrock. Very retarded I think. But super easy drilling. I remember two years ago when the Fish and Wildlife, I believe, put in a poisen in the sanitary canal. There were thousands of fish floating everywhere. I believe the only killed a small handfull of the Asian Carps.

There are electrified under water fences in all the water ways that lead to Lake Michgan. But i do not know how well those work. I thought the Asia Carp already made into the lake. The poisen failed in Epic fashion if I recall.

Do you know what a freakin pain it is to get the paint off of the back of the instrument cluster gauges to get rid of that gawdawful green color??? I'm going cross-eyed! Acetone and paint thinner aren't doing the best. I wonder if I should do a how-to on getting the gauges to clear so you can put any color led lights you want for your main dash gauges... Hmmmm.....

Two words. Portable Bandsaw! Makes for some serious time savings over tubing cutters!
