for some odd reason after about 15 minutes of driving the temp gauge will spike all the way up and then sit there for about 20 seconds and then sit back down where it should sit around the middle

i checked the coolant overflow and it took about half a jug of coolant im hoping this resolved the problem

Doubt you cured the prob.where the missing coolant go? Either on the ground,in the oil pan or out the exhaust.

I had the same issue. Look at Blackened300a posts (that was what i did). It may be where the cross over tube connects to the engine. I had low coolant, 20 second needle jumping and the :mad2:too. Now the issue is gone. It heated up the very first time after i fixed it, but nothing now. It has been three weeks now and no problems or leaks. Good luck. P.S. I am not the most qualified mechanic (not even close), but this fix was easy. Be sure to flush it while you have every thing open, it can only help.

is water coming out the exhaust if so thats not good. if its mixing in the oil you dont want this problem. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75490

^^ not accurate. water out the exhaust is absolutely normal.

Correct.

If you had the cooling system opened for something, then burping it is the first thing to try.
