My Marauder has about 115k on it and it just started giving me problems with one of the plugs. I noticed a misfire in it on my drive into work one morning so I took it in to a friends shop. He told me that they found one of the plugs w/a damaged bottom. So they replaced it and the car ran fine, the next day it started doing the same thing. This time I had it towed to another shop & they are now telling me that the piston is hitting the plug and damaging it. Is this as bad as it sounds? Anybody else had anything similar happen?

Never heard of that happening unless the wrong plugs were installed.

Im wondering if your plug threads are damaged (assuming you have the correct plugs)?

Plugs are too "hot"...need to go several steps "cooler"...These (cooler plugs) don't extend into the chamber as much...

If this is happening you have major issues......piston might/most likely is damaged & may need to overhaul motor as worst scenario case ...

Thats kind of what I was thinking, theyre going to take the head off and check that piston in the next few days. Its weird that I originally had the plugs done about 6mos ago and its just now started doing that. :bigcry:

Ummm...

Have they verified the correct plugs are installed?

100% certainty?

Before they tear it down, get the plug information and post up here.

How damaged is the plug? I'm certain you have all 8 of the same plug in the engine so if they were wrong, there would be another 7 damaged.
A stretched rod or a worn wrist pin would cause piston to plug contact but that would likely be instantly and make noise. I would check the threads in the head first then look at the piston through a borescope to see what damage was done to the top.

You guys were right wrong plugs after all. Inspected the piston & it's just fine. Checking w/the local dealership to get the correct plugs installed. That's what I get for not taking it to the ford store like I had been doing. Thanks for all the good advice

Good news for sure!

I would NOT go back to that shop again.
