Hello folks I haven't been on here in awhile but I hope all is well with everyone given the winter is around the corner and is harsh on our MM's. Anyway, my GM's tranny went up in October but I still want to keep it. My question is, which is the best route for to take given that your on a budget??

Well, a rebuild for a Crown Vic a few years ago was $1600 for me in my area (northeast Ohio) This was from a long time here Trans shop. You could see if you have an engine/transmission exchange near you where you basically buy a re-build, they install it and keep your old as a core I guess, or you can look for one at a junkyard. They usually know the mileage that was on it when pulled. You should be able to find a low mileage one and not sure of cost but somewhere in the $400 -$500 range plus install unless you can do yourself.

Thanks. The problem I have with getting another tranny is I had one put into my 94 Sentra and it never drove the same for whatever reason. I don't want the same thing to happen to my GM but I don't have the $$ to shell out for rebuilding one either unless I wait and save. I guess it falls on who does the best job with installing. Thanks again.

Usually the cheapest route would be to pick up a used one.

Ok another question is, is rebuilding the tranny the best way to go, or dropping another one in the best route because mine had 100K on it when it died.

What year GM?

I have a good transmission out of my '95 GM that I'm parting out.
I just posted the transmission for sale on craigslist-Baltimore.

I don't know the differences, if any, between those years.
