On my search for another transmission for my GM, I've come across some police packaged ones with very good miles on them. My question is, what's the difference between a regular one and a police one?

My guess would be nothing.

The Ford factory Service Manual makes no distinction between trannies.

Oh ok I thought there would be a huge difference between the two.

The 2004 Marauder transmission has a higher stall converter and I think an extra clutch inside maybe?

The 'difference" actually comes in the PCM for the shift points due to numerically higher rear end ratios of 3.27 or 3.55 from the civilian 2.73 (not including sport models or HPP packages)

Hey ctrlraven how are you? I was referring to my GM, the tranny went up and I'm in search for another one. Thanks RubyCtyRauder.

Doing good man and yourself? What year is your GM and what year is the CVPI trans?

Good just trying to get ready for the winter months. My GM is a 99 and I've found a 99 tranny CVPI with just over 36K...

Not bad, get the Jmod done to it before it goes in! lol

Sorry it's 31K and where can I purchase that and what is it for?

The Jmod is a upgrade on the valvebody in the transmission, firms up the shifts and will help increase the life of the transmission. It's not a kit, it's something someone needs to have done by someone who knows how to do it. PM Seneca he is local and knows how to do it.

MM has a P71 Trans
Your 99 GM does not.

You also will need a P71 driveshaft (aluminum) because of the extended tailshaft housing. Get the driveshaft out of that 99 you found as it may be the good MMC (Metal Matrix Composite) shaft. If the 99 has 3.55's this is true.

Oh ok sounds like I'll have to get it to both the GM and MM. Thanks.

Do you have an idea about how much that will run?

Probably 2-3 hours of labor and 3-5 quarts of Mercon V fluid.
