If I have missed an earlier thread......well I did look! Has anyone R&R'd the backup lights on an MM? I need to get both of them out but short of taking the whole trunk lid apart I see no way. Is there a trick I am missing? I can't believe it's that much work...

If you are speaking of the entire lense assembly:

It is that much work....sorry. The entire rear panel comes off. Removing just the white backup lenses is not an option.

Moderator Rick, LincMercLover (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=253), took his off and brought it to Ennis MV-I meet for me to paint.

Is this what you are up to? If so, I masked mine on the car, I was unwilling to disassemble all that stuff.

It wasn't that hard. Just about 8-10 little bolts in behind the trunk lid and tug kinda hard and pop, it comes out.

SO removing all the bolts at the bottom of the trunk lid will provide access to the whole backup light assy?

Yes. Remove the license plate frame and light, remove the nuts (8 or 10?) on the back of the deck lid, and the light assembly comes off very easy.

I tried to remove the lenses from that assembly - don't. They don't come off, without almost destroying the whole assembly.
