View Full Version : As I get ready for the Trilogy Install

As I get ready to do the Trilogy install, I just wonder if there is anything else I should consider doing. I am adding the SS brake lines, new brake fluid, real OP sensor and gauge, bigger fuel filter, and of course, colder plugs, an oil change and new coolant. I am planning on complete trans fluid/filter change when I am up and running again. Car has about 100K miles on it and have changed oil/filter every 2500 miles. Anything else I should consider?

I want to do a complete fluid change for the coolant. Any magic place I may want to drain like the lower radiator hose w/o doing a flush? Is there a block drain plug?

That's gonna be way too much work and effort so you shouldn't attempt to put that Trilogy thingamajig on. I suppose I could help get it out of your way so it isn't taking up shelf space.

Congrats and I hope the install goes well. Dang, wish I could have gotten in on one.

Mine is coming up too. Definitely change all the Coil on Plugs at 100k if it hasn't been done already. They don't fail catastrophically, but fade off. Replace with motorcraft. Slight hesitation in my car at 1500 rpm made me have them all tested and 3 out of 8 were going bad at 63k. Injectors and plugs come with the kit so no worries there.

I'm planning on a new water pump while the coolant is drained when I install mine.

The installation manual doesn't indicate that new plugs come with the kit unless something has changed.

Great idea on the water pump...

The kit does not come with the plugs but recommends that the plugs be changed to one step colder than stock... I think Motorcarft AWSF 22Cs which are now replaced by AGSF 22Cs.

From the installation manual:

6.1. SPARK PLUGS
a) Re-gap spark plugs to 0.032".
Use of one heat-range colder spark plugs (Motorcraft P/N: AWSF-22C or Motorcraft P/N: AGSF-22C or NGK TR6 or Champion RS9YC) is optional.

New air filter.

Differential oil. Clean it out and change it up.

Coolant swap writeup Short answer, you can only reach one of the block drains so to change all the coolant drain and flush with water till clear then fill with 9 quarts of 100% coolant.

Also rear coolant crossover mod a MUST!!! plus you already have the intake off for the Trilogy install

The Trilogy kit comes with new one range colder plugs, at least both of mine and other installs I attended did. Flush the tranny if it hasn't been done and replace with new FORD recommended tranny fluid. You will be asking the transmission to do a lot more work. Good idea with the SS brake lines. Now put money aside for real brakes. Wilwoods are my choice because they WORK. Change your fuel filter as you will be needing to deliver more fuel as you make more power. Your BAP will work just fine with the stock pulley IF your filter is not restricted. Good luck, have fun and drive safe. Dennis

Wow, I hope the other new Trilogy owners are paying attention, you guys have some great thoughts here and they are greatly appreciated! I want to do the job right and get my Marauder back into shape after years of barely being driven and somewhat neglected

I am going to do the job myself and take my time. I know you guys like pictures too, so I 'll try to keep you upto date on how things are progressing. Also, no heated garage to do the work , so progress will be slow... I don't take the car out for the winter anyway, so I have alot of time to do this. And yes, I am excited and can't wait to see the results... I have never driven in a S/C Marauder ever... I imagine that I will have a smile on my face for some time

When I did mine, every nut, bolt, screw or clip I removed was cleaned prior to re-installation.

Be very frugal with the silicone while mating parts on that Trilogy. The faces are very well machined. If you put more than a thin film, it will all smoosh out and make a bead inside... If yiu use too much, you'll know.

Take the wiper cowl off. It wasn't in the instructions but it was advised by folks here and I'm definitely glad I did.

Do a part inventory as well, I was given the wrong belt in my kit.

Loctite the crank blower pulley bolts. I didn't (the instructions didn't say to and I'm a stickler for procedure) and they backed out so now I'm dealing with that.

There is a BAP installation thread around here that has better placement than the instructions in the Trilogy kit. This: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=74289

When you put in the new EGR tube, be mindful of the insulation around there. If you mess it up and it hangs down and touches the cat at all, you might start a small fire. :D

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, if I remember anything else I'll put it up.

Like Takedown said. Come on out to the gatherings. You'll see plenty of supercharged Marauders. And I bet you could even drive a couple of them!!:burnout:

That's what happened to me. Bradley let me drive his Trilogized Marauder and so has Justbob!!

I've got some nice burnout marks in front of my house from Bradley's car!!:burnout:

:beer:The only hick-up I had was the chip on the PCM was not making good connection because I was too timid in removing the coating on the edge of the circuit board.
Now the kits come with a hand held tuner so that is not even possible.
2nd vote for a J-mod especially if you are gonna service the transmission anyway.
I have a gasket(s) pkg I'd be willing to donate to the cause.

Now would be the time to also consider deleting the EGR depending on how stringent emissions in your area are. If they simply check for codes then you can ask Lidio to disable the EGR in your tune.

The benefits are being able to get rid of the EGR junk in the engine bay and easier access to the transmission dipstick . Search for more information.

Good luck with the installation! I may be installing mine the week after Christmas depending on when the remaining crossover tubes get to Trilogy.

My first TRILOGY ride was in JustBob's car and I was hooked! I also got to drive Motorhead350's Procharger version on my very first Windy City meet. Wish our MARAUDERs came like this stock!
