I just had the Mercury dealer install the plugs, computer chip, thermostate and 4.10 rear-end.

The automatic shift from first to second is a bit of a jolt at low speeds.

It shifts at about 40 at full pedal down and not too much of a jolt.

Any ideas about the shift at low speeds?

If you're saying it's shifting at 40mph under WOT, that's not right...If it's a Reinhart chip, give Dennis a call.

If the jolt is too much for you, Dennis can back the shift firmness off with a custom burn

I don't know if it is a Reinhart chip - will check with the dealer. I just got the work done yesterday and need to drive it more to know if this jolt is going to be something I can't live with.

This muscle car business is new to me. What is WOT?

Wide open Throttle.

If you ordered from Dennis Reinhart, then you have the reinhart chip.

Capt...If you added gears, chip, stat and plugs at a Fla. dealer, they are most likely Reinhart products. Dennis sells direct to dealers in his area, and the way I hear it, it's win-win for all. Certified wrenches and FMC parts protect the warranty, and we get the MM God intended us to own.

If you're feeling a "jolt" in first to second shifts, you're probably a tad heavy on the throttle and giving the car mixed signals about what you want it to do. Be patient, Capt., keep driving around in normal traffic, and you'll feel your way through this. Remember that a Reinhart MM is a whole new car, I had to re-educate myself in casual acceleration, or break her loose at every traffic light, and second gear. Reinhart's has the MM down, peak performance pegged, but, that also means changing my driving habits in normal circumstances, or, laying in a supply of replacement tires.

I have so many more thoughts on Reinharts's package and his advice, I should start another thread, so, maybe...I will.

Let me see if I got this straight: with the 4.10 and a chip a MM will not only "get a wheel" - it will also "get second?"

Cool.

Yep...You bet, Macon, my Reinhart upgrades produced (for me) an impressive launch, 15 to 20 feet of dual burn, from a standing start, no brake, followed by a solid, clear chirp at second, under WOT. However, like everything else in this world today, some "fine print" issues need to be explained, I'll post them soon in a comprehensive "Reinhart Report" donchano.

I got the same stuff done last week, chip, Plugs, stat and gears. I have enjoyed the same performance boost, lots of rubber on the road. But have also experienced the same heavy jolt going to second gear. It's more apparent if you start off reasonably fast and then start to ease off before it shifts into second.

I think it just needs some getting used to.

The "fine print" I mentioned before...

Outside temps in the low 20s, lots of cold air, and cold pavement, with a light residue of salt powder left over from a recent snow. I'm sure these conditions contributted to my experience, just how much I can't say. I also saw my first 125 MPH, with quite a bit of pedal left to push.

Also forgot to mention this...

My Reinhart chip has a switch that restores factory specs, just in case you can't get 93 octane, or have to turn it over to someone, like a valet, or Mom. BTW, my dealer (who did the install) says Reinhart's chip IS transparent, invisible to their machines, on and off.

The MM is one great car, and Reinhart's package is a "must have," IMHO.

I don't have the gears yet, but with the Reinhart chip, plugs and stat it's like a new car. I don't have a jolt to second. Before the chip it wanted to get to 4th as quick as possible. I love the way it shifts now.
Last night on the way home in 10 degree weather I decided to see what she would do. It shifted into 4th at 142 MPH  I was amazed how quick it got there. The car felt great. Felt so good I did it again on the next straight stretch. I can't imagine what the top end of the MM would be. I'll leave that to someone else to find out.
