I'm buying a 2003 MM this week and it has a Canadian speedometer (reads out in KMH, with a KM odometer). I would like to buy and install a US speedometer/odometer. I want to swap it and translate the KM to Miles on the odo without flagging anything on the title. I want to keep the mileage on the up and up. Anyone have any experience with this, and would a Ford dealer be the best place to have this done?

It's fairly easy to do if you have mechanical experience, or, you can take the cluster to a speedometer shop, they can do it for you, as most dealers don't do this service, they will send it out.

As a side note, if you decide to sell the KMH cluster, I would be interested in purchasing it.

For the swap, how difficult is it to set the mileage correctly? Anyone have any experience dealing with the DMV so the title shows the correct mileage?
I'd be interested in a swap. I'll post pics of what I have when I get the car this week.

On an obvious side note, I'm so stinkin' excited to be getting this car!

I can change the mileage for you. Will need the new speedo or cluster and your current mileage.

Where to begin?

There were something like 490 Canadian-version Marauders made, so your KmpH speedo is pretty rare.
The Kmph speedo also has the mile-per-hour markings on it. The larger numbers are Km-per-hour, while the smaller numbers are in miles-per-hour. If you can get used to reading the smaller numbers, you don't actually have to swap anything.
Do the DMV mileage records contain the unit along with the number? I know that here in Ontario, we only keep the number. So, if what you're suggesting is to convert your cluster from metric to imperial, and you want to change the odometer from kilometers to miles, there will be a big difference in the number but no change in the unit. In other words, will the DMV see that the recorded mileage has changed from (using example numbers) "160000 kms" to "100000 miles" with the units included, which represents no actual difference in distance travelled, or will they see the mileage changed from "160000" to "100000" without any units? Good luck explaining that.
The 300-'eh' Marauders have a more complete set of features than the '03 300a, '03 300b and the '04s. It's got front-seat map pockets, traction control, mini-spare, gas-door release, clock-in-dash, metric speedo and odo, and multi-lingual oil pressure gauge and voltmeter. If you swap the gauge cluster to metric, you'll upset this special balance. People in the know will just look at your car funny.
The transmissions in :canada: MMs are designed around the metric system. Just check the transmission pan - if it has the word METRIC stamped into it, your imperial gauge cluster probably won't even work unless you swap the transmission as well. :depress: Seriously. :hide:

As stated above, getting used to the "mile" / "kilometer" numbers on the speedo is nothing! I don't even notice anymore.
When I bought mine years ago (mine was from Florida), I was searching-out the same info about the swap. (I was going to change from miles to kilometer).
After driving for a day (maybe 2 at most), you don't even notice the other numbers. The numbers on the Marauder speedo are big enough that looking at both is no problem at all. It's not like you have to "sqint" to see the ones you don't want to see.

Funny... my MM has METRIC stamped on the tranny pan and it's never been to Canada......

Why is there no distinction between US & Canadian Marauders in the SHop Manual.....

Got the car last Tuesday, it rides and drives great. Getting used to the looking at the smaller numbers on the speedo. The numbers are big enough for me to read, and it's not as big of a problem as I thought it would be. However, I would still like to swap it. Now, just gotta get one purchased and programmed with the correct mileage on the odo. The mileage was converted to miles on the title (~50K miles), so swapping to an imperial instrument cluster shouldn't cause any DMV issues as long as the odo readings are correctly converted from KM to Miles.

I wonder if you were to buy new white gauge overlays US style and overlay them
onto your Canada cluster would that clear up the problem.

Here is something to consider. Ebay Item # 380395434039, the cost is $22.79 free
shipping, worth a look. I am not affiliated with this offering in any way.
Just want to help out if possible.

Blessings

Yes it has. It was born here :pooh: Says so right on the drivers door.

You must have the US version of the manual. Is yours bilingual?

JK..

Seriously, I just made that stuff up cuz I don't want the OP to do the swap, for entirely selfish reasons.

What would you charge for the mileage change, and how do you do it?
