Has anyone had their radio start to not receive stations, or have lots of static after the vehicle has warmed up? The tape and CD functions work fine.

A common problem with Marauder radios.

There are some bad solder joints in the radio.

You can get yours repaired, replace it with a unit from an Escape or go aftermarket.

Or I can sell you one from a 9,000 mile car for $75 shipped to your door.

I will also have one of the 6 disc Audiophile for sale soon too.

Having experienced it myself and always read about it on here, yet never having actually clarified, maybe you can confirm my suspicions, just for curiosity's sake:

Is it the phase lock loop that malfunctions? Sometimes it seemed like it didn't sweep frequencies, other times it seemed like it wildly cycled through the whole frequency band, and it was only contained to the FM band on the radio. The phase lock loop was all I could think of.

I had the same experience, sounds like its trying to tune in Jupiter. I tend to agree with you on the Phase Lock Loop circuit having a problem (probably a bad solder joint, or failed capacitor). It seems like it cannot lock on to a particular frequency, drifting around. Both AM & FM. To bad we can't find a schematic and board layout to do some trouble shooting...

The funny thing was I was able to receive AM perfectly. That was one of the last things on my radio that actually worked. My FM reception died, so I started using the 6-disc changer, then the reading of that got fuzzy every now and then (couldn't see the changer at all), so I put in a cassette-to-mp3-player tape into the tape deck, well then the radio decided to eat it so that didn't work. All I could do was listen to AM radio and if I had a CD in the cabin with me I could load it in the head unit slot.

Consequently, for the semester of college that I still had that radio but it was on the fritz, I was a very well-informed student with all that AM radio time... :P

I actually still have that head unit, since I replaced it with an aftermarket it got tossed in the closet, and now that I don't have the car I don't know what to do with it. :(

Mine worked off and on for about 2 weeks. Now completely dead, no tuner....just static. POS!!!

In the meantime, I've been listening to CDs as radio stations in Honolulu suck.

I plan on going aftermarket. Just better to spend the $ I use for another stock deck on a aftermarket one that I can choose what features I like.

+1 - I just noticed this last week since I only use the radio around Christmas time. Any other time of year, I just listen to CDs.

My 6 CD changer is working like a champ hooked up to the stock JBL remote rear unit in my 96

Custom mount using part of the marauder bracket and zip ties. NEVER skips

I took mine all apart and checked the cct boards all over with a eye loop looking for bad solder joints, etc. Couldn't find anything suspicious, and with everything being surface mount components, you really can't do any troubleshooting without schematics and board layouts. Gave up and bought a used one from this site, and its been working ok ever since.
It will most likely fail in the future, so I'm saving for one of the newer Pioneer or Kenwood units with all the bells and whistles.....
