So car has been hard to start last few months and finally battery died on its own after not starting for 3 days. Anyways recharged battery and its holding a charge for now....

However when I started the car and pulled it out of the garage I noted 2 lines of what appears to be oil or black liquid pouring out from where the exhaust drain holes are.

This is not the first time I have noticed this, I have noticed 2 or 3 other times the same. I frequently have to crank the car over twice to get it to start (like crank it, stop, start again and it starts up), but when I do about 50% of the time it blows blue smoke like crazy for 1-2 seconds then clears out.

So does anyone else have this drippy oil problem out of thier exhaust...does it mean anything...like EGR clogged or something? I know I had massive oil buildup in the intake and need to get an oil seperator money is just tight and haven't had the bank yet for an accessory...

Pretty sure it is not oil...likely build up from you car running rich....carbon left in the exhaust and humidity builds up it leaks from the tailpipes...thats why the holes are there. If you have ever had black tips thats from the carbon build up.

If you manage to shoot oil out the tailpipes then you have beyond serious issues. That's carbon being washed out by the moisture in your tips. Nothing to worry about but you are running rather rich.

Yep. Sometimes when I start my car up and give it some gas it makes a big black streak on the asphalt. Same deal.

Good to know, yeah about 30 minutes after washing the types they will be real black so that must be it. Don't know why the car is running rich...have cleaned MAF, replaced IAC, plugs have less than 3K miles on them, replaced all COP boots JIC... would that be cause for why its so hard to start?

I'm sure at some point I need to replace the factory battery as well, but I keep checking it with the multimeter and it seems to stay above 11.5 in a 24 hour period, and after 3 hours is at 12.4...the bulb is still green as well.

looks to me like water ( condensation) and carbon nothing to be worried about

I notice the insides of the tips on Phoebe do turn black rather quickly with the current tune. When I run the stock tune (to pass state inspection) they stay cleaner, but it's been this way for the last 70,000 miles so I'm not concerned.

+1 ^^^

Also if your Marauder smokes on startup try some AUTO-RX.

www.auto-rx.com (http://www.auto-rx.com)

The seals are leaking - this stuff helps clean them - no more smoke on start.

If you're not above 12.5 after 24 hrs you have a serious drain on the battery or the battery is NG.

On a Mack engine we had a driver leave the exhaust brake on at a idle and it started pumping oil out the stack. Made quite the mess.
Mack used a mechanical switch on the clutch pedal and the throttle linkage thats controlled by a switch on the dash. Only a Mack could idle with the exhaust brake engaged and not stall like a CAT or Cummins.

If that was D00M's muffler I would consider that a typical burnout!

Yep!

That sounds more like a 'Dom' problem!

just a shot in the dark....could your o2 senors be taking a crap, or be dirty? i know if they fail, your check engine light will come on, but is it possible for them to be dirty enough that its telling your car to run richer?--whitey

I guess they could be? They have never been changed since the CEL hadn't popped on it..

Something to think about that may be contributing to a starting issue... I was over at a friends shop who was working on a '00 Jeep he was selling out of his back lot, the battery was somewhat mediocre and it would crank OK(was maybe a bit slow), but would not start at all... With a jump box connected she'd fire right up and run fine, restart no issue... Remove the jump box and it would just crank and crank... I dunno about our electronics but at least on that MOPAR they weren't happy with less than full battery voltage...

Weak batteries can ruin starters, any battery past seven years old should be replaced just because it's at the end of it's usable life...

Yeah, mine started slow even with the charger on at 13 volts total charge, but I plan to replace the battery anyway come next paycheck just to be done with worrying about it. Checked it today after 26 hours off and got 12.39 volts.
