Ever since I bought my Marauder, neither the horn nor the cruise control have worked. I attempted to take out the horn relay but could not get it to budge. Also, when I tried with the relay, I did get the horn to blow. Anyways, I have read that this may be caused by a bad clockspring. The thing that doesnt make since though is that my radio controls and ac controls work just fine. So that makes me think that maybe the clockspring is fine and the problem lays within the wiring. Could someone please shine some light on this? I hate being in the situation where a car is about to hit me and I cant even honk to warn them. Thanks in advance.

I believe the clockspring can be the cause here. No airbag light on?

Nope, no airbag light. The car was in a collision when it was 6 months old? Could that have affected something?

Could have affected the wiring harness in the front end.
Check to see if you have power at the horns (horns do go bad), if no power then start working your way back.
Of course I'd check the fuses first.

Fuses are good and the horn is good. I have tested both.

Pull the airbag off and see if the connections are good. Also check the wiring from there down.

Make sure the cruise control servo is plugged in. Its in the driver back corner of the engine bay. I do know the horn wiring goes thru it. If it is plugged in it could be bad.

I went and made sure everything in the engine bay was plugged in. I didnt see anything unplugged or cut.

If all obvious wiring is good it is likely youre clock, spring Horn and Cruise run thru however if memory serves me I dont think other steering wheel controls do. Also sometimes when clock spring goes bad it wont trip the air bag light. All cars with SRS system should trip light if it this happens but have seen others that had bad CS and srs light was not on.

Thank you very much for the information. I ordered a clockspring and will install it as soon as I get it.

Like has been said. Hardly ever does the clockspring fail without other concerns ie air bag light on. I would really check into the cruise servo. The horn circuit does go thru it. Dont think I have ever put a clockspring in a car without several concerns present.

When you say "check into the cruise servo," what do you mean? Should I be looking for something specific? I checked and it was plugged in and no wires were cut. Is there a way to test the servo without outright replacing it?

Also noticed last night that the lights behind the cruise control buttons still work. So it is getting power.

A clockspring is a ribbon with all your wiring running through it. It is flat and wide and made to rotate left or right so you do not sever the wires when turning your wheel. I have only had to replace them on Ford vehicles, at least four of them. Symptoms were loss of one thing, then another, then another. Chances of snapping all wires at once is slim to none. If it is the clockspring, more switches and lights are on there way out.

Not a MM, but you get the idea. Older ones used a recoil ribbon inside. I'm sure nothing has changed.

I bought a new clockspring but I am on vacation and it arrived at my house yesterday. I will install it as soon as I get home. I was just trying all other options while I was bored on vacation.

Does the harness attached to the back of the clockspring unclip? or do I have to chase the harness into the steering column included the plug for the ingnition? I have the steering wheel off and the clockspring is hanging but I dont know how to unplug it.

Well I still have not found my problem. I bought and installed a new clockspring, didnt fix it. I have tested all the fuses and relays involved with both the cruise and the horn, didnt fix it. I removed a cruise control servo from my friends marauder and put it in mine, didnt fix it. I am losing my mind!! Any other ideas?

Wait wait wait i had the same issue (except the horn) just goto your closest junk yard and find the buttons (whole assembly) just pops out with a small flat head and a small wire connector if I'm correct some town cars, continental, superduties, Lincoln trucks/navigator (97-03), marauders of course and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting. swap it out for yours and see watcha get alot cheaper and easier then clockspring replacement
Like this it is the same for all of the cars I listed above

I replaced the cruise control servo on my Town Car for $50. Brand new. 10 minute job. Ebay is your friend.

Do you have power at the horns?
If not start working your way back.

Update: replaced the horns and working good now, but sound like crap due to cheap horns but will upgrade soon. Thank for the input all.
