View Full Version : Ok. If 4.10s are good....Anyone gonna try 4.33s?

Hrm. Ok. Now I'm starting to wonder if 4.33s might not be even more of a good thing. I'm going to stay naturally aspirated for a while. I'm thinking this might be good except on the old gas mileage. :)

If you do the math on 4.33's, they'll work, but you'll find the engine shifting well into it's power band rather than at the beginning of the power band.

I guess one of the stats that probably is most noticable to me would be the 60 foot time.

To me the biggest bummer is that my Marauder does not seem like a racehorse being reined in at a stop. Those first 30 feet are excrutiating some warm days.

Obviously the funnest way to solve that is adding torque, but I don't want to put any major mods in until it's not my daily driver. At that point, when it's just a fun car, I'd like to add a blower. But until I can drop the torque down into lower rpms, making it easier to jump into the sweet spot seems like it might be worthwhile. Right now, my Marauder doesn't shift into 3rd until just over 90mph at WOT.

My mental "racetimation" tells me that on the track I'd be hitting third only a brief moment before the end of the 1/4.

Please don't make me feel too bad for not knowing this, but what is "WOT" ?

tetsu,

If its any consolation my DOHC Intrigue would hold 2nd until 80 mph!
It's 65-90mph acceleration was something to behold.

I think you guys are getting too far into this rear gear thing.
If it were me I would look for some vendors that can change out the first and possibly second gear ratio in the transmission.
This will get you that off idle punch that Marauder seems to need.

I have posted this before, but if you put the same first gear thats in the Chevy trans(3.06) into the Ford tranny, then a 3.55 gear would act like a 3.82 and a 4.10 would act like a 4.42!
All this with no gas mileage penalty!

Perhaps the 5 speed auto thats in the Explorer would help.
I know it effectively has 2 2nd gears, but does anybody know the first and second gear ratios in this box?

I found the 5 speed autos gear ratios.
1st = 3.22
2nd = 2.41
3rd = 1.55
4th = 1.00
5th = .75

Obviously this is the hot ticket for Marauder acceleration.

The 3.55 wil feel like a 4.02
And the 4.10 will feel like a 4.64!!!

I am going to start another thread with this info.

Eh? The 4.10's I have in mine solve the off the line acceleration problem quite nicely while keeping the motor in it's power band all throughout the acceleration band. I'd much rather spend the $6-700 bucks to swap gears than void my drivetrain warranty by swapping EEC's and tranmission's. Never mind the 4-6000 bucks it'd cost you to do it.

Gears & a chips make it go really nice for under a $1000. My next major mod would have to be a Vortech.

Does anyone know what the stock Marauder converter flash stalls to?

I'm suprised no one has yet thought about adding a high stall one. You could smoke your tires all day long with NO gear changes :)

This is usually one of the first mods the Impala guys do. The higher the rpm range of the motor, the greater the effect will be with the higher stall.

Stock stall on the Impala is 1350rpm. Most guys starting out will add a 2400 stall, which really wakes the car up. Mine stalls to 3800, a bit high for a daily driver, but TONS of fun!! Since the Marauder has a high revving engine (compared to the LT1), you guys should seriously consider the high stall option.

A bone stock Impala running mid 15s with the stock 3.08 gears will be able to smoke the tires with only a 2400 stall and NO other changes, and usually gain 3 to 4 tenths in the 1/4.

You're surprised? Uh, The cars have only been on the road for a little over a month! It isn't that it hasn't been thought of, it's that not many of the cars are even broken in yet! :)

Otherwise I agree with everything you've said..

Yeah, a couple guys. IIRC, Marauderman had a set in his car for a while and went back to 4.10s.

Good memory there Cheese---yeah-for about a month-took a trip to Fla with them and a bit around town-found them like Logan said in the beginning--they put the MM way to far into the power band way too soon----+ to me, they made noise which the 410's did not --so I sold them and put 410's back in--which is no doubt the correct gear for this car in my opinion--even with a roots---although those with roots seem to prefer 355's too---so its all up to the user----to each their own taste and FEEL!
