Why does the Marauder look so much bigger than the SS?

It is odd but then again you need to bear in mind our MM was designed to be and look like a BIG car for the sake of those not quite up to the big mpther ship "Town car" the hood and green house styling are squared up for a more "Formal" look. One interesting thing! notice how the green house and attending glass area look very much smaller then the SS. The 18" wheels also contribute to this bigger look, still while I have always like the SS I think the MM still looks "Trimer"

Bill - I agree the 18" wheels make it look bigger.

My Sport is taller than my Impala.... the greenhouse does stick up there...
The dimensions might say the Panther is wider - but inside it's about 3 inches narrower than the Impala...
They are both - very good looking.................like me!!!

marauder is still the better looking.
I agree. But for a different reason probably. :)
Every Impala SS I see where I live has now been totally ragged out and trashed. Dirty, dented, paint looks like hell, riding low to the ground like the suspension has died and given up...... for the lack of a better explanation..... for some reason they simply look like old worn out police cars or taxi cabs lately. I guess the "original" owners have sold them or traded them in, and the typical "used car" person buying them now just doesn't care. I saw a black 95 or 96 model tonight. I wouldn't have given the driver $5,000 for it. And only then if it had extremely low mileage.
I guess there's still some nice ones out there somewhere, but certainly not in Central Virginia that I know of.

I'm probably really biased, but I love the design of the Marauder much better. It just has a much classier, timeless, and traditional look to it. The Impala SS looks like it drank too many high carb beers...........

For a big sedan it sure handles small. maybe because I am use to my Suburban but I went and drove CVs, GMs, Caddys, Lincoln TCs, and the MM really handles so much better. I have the DR/Addco rear sway bar and I am considering the front sway bar also. Has anyone else installed the Fr sway bar?

If I remember correctly Dennis stated" a front swat bar upgrade was not required".

Uh, OK! Does that mean it is written in stone? I want more performance from my suspension and and willking to sacrifice some of my comfort to get it. Does that mean Because DR said ------ I don't need it?

Barry,
The front has a 28mm stabilizer bar...It's pretty "beefy"...I would recommend the Eibach springs on the front. Have you driven my car yet? With the rear swaybar from Dennis, and the front springs...she handles like a small sportscar. Let's set that up for you to feel the difference
BTW...we need to talk...I think I'm heading to FLA on Tuesday...what are your plans?

No. It's your ride do what ever you want. Just trying to be helpful. IMO Dennis knows more about the Marauder than any one else.

Sorry John, I reread my post and I kinda snaped at you. Was not intentional. I have been to DR and am still going back for my Level II upgrade on the tranny and I respect his input but sometimes I want to go in a different direction. That doesn't take anything away from Dennis and his expertise. I worked in the engineering field for 30 yrs and have had differnt hot rods and most of it until now has been all myself. I am going to try TAF's car and see how it handles.

It may sound unfortunate, but you'll start seeing Marauders like that in 7-10 years. Of all the 1994-1996 Impalas I see, most are disgraceful....dirty, dented, bald tires, sagging, etc. I see very few spotless ones that look showroom new.
It depends on the owner. Did they buy a good every day car that will give them 10+ years of service, or a weekend car that is cared for a lot more?

I have an '96 Impala SS that has 80k on it. It looks about 3 years old, but then it has spent every night in a garage. It does have to contend with life in Houston as a daily driver though... My '93 Olds Ciera never spent a night in a garage, in fact, it lived under a tree, but I lived in rural La. It looked about 4 years old when I gave it to grandma with 160k on it.
In spite of the above average attention I pay to my vehicles, the average Impala enthusiast makes me look like a slob.

What I liked about the 94-96 SS is that you knew what it was coming at you. Chevy promoted it. I wish Mercury would make the Marauder more well known. When you see those chrome wheels and shiny twice pipes, you know it's more than a just a Grand Marquis. Mercury should let the members of this group do the advertising and promotions for the MM. They wouldn't be able to make them fast enough.
Have you seen the new Impala SS? You can barely read the "SS" on the side and it doesn't have the intimidating/sinister look of the Marauder. PLUS.....when you roast the tires on the Marauder....it is the REAR tires that light up. Try that in a new Impala SS. :baaa:
