View Full Version : Hid light problem
I just installed 6000k HID kit. Looks AWESOME. The only problem I'm having is when I unlock the doors of course the lights come on. But after I start the car the lights go off, and does do not come back on automatically unless I cycle the headlight switch to on posistion then back to auto, then the lights stay on. Any ideas why that's doing that? Helppppppppp lol.:mad2:

you need to hook up relays to them.

Relays are not needed....... nice to have but not necessary.

1st check all pin connections for full contact & good grounds. If all pins connections are good & still doesn't work switch up wire harness to opposit side. You can use right or left side for trigger. Sometimes wire harness that comes with kit the three wires brown white red are not correct. Brown is ground two others I think are high/ low beam. Make sure brown is in the middle of harness connector.

If you have a wiring harness with relays u can use auto lamps because the power draw is straight from the battery, otherwise u can't use auto lamps.
Thanks for the info. A total change of convo, but where are good placed to mount the ballast for the Hids. Both headlamps and fogs?

Don't think that is correct.
I've installed many HID kits without relays.
HID kits connect to the OEM headlight connector so whever it gets power the HIDs will activate.

Regular or slim ballasts?

I installed my ballast useing double sided tape. Place the ballast between the steel cross member to the most outer portion closer to the side light marker behind the head light plenty of room.

I used heavy duty velcro (radioshack sells it, the stuff with a bunch of little teeth that connect), that stuff will stick to anything! I stuck my headlight ballasts on what I believe is the same place Burt ^ put his, on that crossmember behind the headlight assemblies. Then I put the foglight ballasts on the inside slot of the front bumper piece (the actual bumper, not the cover).

My ballast are installed right behind my headlights. came with a slide out bracket that i could bend and screw into the piece that hols the headlights in place (cant think of the name of the piece at the moment). I also agree with everyone above, don't use auto mode with the headlights while using HIDs.

I have heard that turning your HIDs on without the actual motor running can shorten the life of the bulbs significantly. I have a filament highbeam, so what I do is just leave the auto light "on" but leave the highbeams "on" as well. That way it works like a cheap DRL and protects the bulbs.
