Just as the thread title says. I just wanna know who put a bunch of power through 28 spline axles and either didn't break them, or did. And what kinda HP broke them? and what kinda tires you had on?
500RWHP on stock 28 spline axles! Never had a problem. They came out looking great! Now on another members car.
I'm running 31 splines now with a cobra diff. :D

Interesting. I sprayed 125 out of the hole and never had a problem. I'm probably gonna be north of 500 whp. I'm just gonna try to find a town car limo.

What about Moser axles? They make a nice product.

I ran several high 11 sec passes with high 1.6 sixty foot times and never had a problem with the 28 spline.

We have seen several sets of those snap clean in half right at the ABS ring. Fords for me after seeing that in person on Zacks.

You can run thousands of HP through 28 splines if you take it easy now if you plan on burning rubber that a different story

Well I'm planning of having between 6 and 7 hundred to the ground. It's gonna be a turbo so it should come out of the hole softer than a blower or nitrous car would with that HP. and I'm lowering to a 3.08 gear to keep the 26" tire and somewhat of a sleeper look. 28"s usually give it away that you're doing something. LOL.
I've heard from people that 28s may work for what I want to do.

I have original 28 spline axles + differentials on car since '02. Have 82,000 miles and over 300 1/4 mile runs (best 11.3) 525 RWHP with no problems. tires are mickey thompson ET streets with soft 2500 RPM launch. With new engine going into purple panther (est. 650 RWHP) I have changed to 31 spline w/ Detroit Locker.

Don't do 3.08 gears, you will regret it. If you want the higher mph stick with 3,55's, with them you will be able to go 150mph on 28" tall.
BTW its usually the wider tires or drag radials that give you away, plus everyone underestimates these cars.

I have made $1400 the past month beting couple hundred here and there against vettes, GTO's, ss trucks and a claimed 650rwhp TERMI. The key is to alway race out the hole with a measured 1/4. Specially in the pavement somewhere in Mexico.
Before the race I get comments like: Nahh that tank is too heavy! It's all Looks! here is no wayyyyy! There is no replacement for displacement! While I'm in the corner laughing inside.

That's why I went with FORD 31 spline axles!
Seen too many members here snap mosers!

Didn't know about the issues with Mosers in these cars. Used them before in Mustangs and never had a problem.
I thought the OEM axles were "soft", or did that issue get fixed?

BTW its usually the wider tires or drag radials that give you away, plus everyone underestimates these cars.it's getting a turbo 400, and I almost ran out of gear with 3.55s and less than 400whp, so it's definitely gonna run out of gear with substantially more HP than that.
Oh, and as far as the widened is a giveaway, tell that to the 10.5 outlaw guys and to the extreme 275 guys. I already got the 3.08s shipped to me for $40, I've got a plan guys. Thanks for the feedback!

This is what I was looking for. What kinda weight were you at? And were they the ET street radicals or the bias ply?

I don't understand how you almost ran out of gear at less than 120mph with 28" tires and 3.55 gears.
I run 4.10's and a 29" tire and at 127mph I'm doing 6600rpms if I remember correctly.

That was only on a small amount of 2003 Marauders.

weight is 4500 lbs - tires are E/T streets p/n 3743 26x11.50x17 LT
running 4:56 gears and manual valve body transmission shifting @ 6800 RPM
car crosses finish line @ 7200 RPM and 121 MPH

MAN! Sound like you got that car dialed in pretty good! Bracket car?! I may just keep my 28 splines. I'll be almost 1000 lbs lighter and with 3.08 gears. And to think, I was worried about spraying 125 out of the hole with my setup!

Wheel hop is what will kill them. Been 11.7's on the 28 splines with bias et streets. Broke the stock diff not the axles. Not sure what the 60's were then but prolly 1.7's
Have 31 spline mosers now pulling 1.44 60's in a 4100lb race weight. The tru trac doesn't like that, but no problems out of the axles. 18psi from a M112 with a 175 shot at 3k out the hole.
We just ditched the tru trac and now have the detroit locker.

It is foolish to get by with 28 spline axles and sticky tires ... 31 spline is a minimum for performance use.

Its not a Marauder but I've had dead hook launches with slicks and 28 spline axles with my 550hp fox. They are OEM Ford too.
Also these cars having Auto's REALLY helps taking the "hit" off that usually kills an axle. You can pre-load them before launch. The only axles I've seen break was a Mach 1 with 12" slicks and a 7000rpm clutch drop with a Spec 2+ clutch. That was just insane stupid.
The other was an 03 Cobra. Exact same condition.
I've never really seen an auto break an axle.
Its over kill under 500rwhp IMHO. Just like Diff Covers with the girdles on them. Its just something to show off. It doesn't help anything.

A Marauder weighs well over #4,000, plus the weight of the driver. Ford went to 31 spline axle shafts after 2006 with all Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Cars, with what, 240hp? What does a caged Mustang weigh, #3600? Odd that Ford didn't think 31 spline axles were overkill. It is foolish to get by with 28 spline axles and sticky tires ... 31 spline is a minimum for performance use.

I have 34 12sec timeslips and 25 11sec timeslips with 28 spline axels and the car is still riding around on them. Ohhh btw low 1.7 and high 1.6 sixty foot all runs.

From what I have read, and from my personal understanding, the OEM 31 spline axles are not much stronger than the OEM 28 spline axles. Neither were designed for performance use.

I figured you were working on something in the Auto Lab [Turbo's work well and a few bucks cheaper to hook up :burnout: [ In the 80's I ran Turbo coupe T birds ]
