OK,.. I was just reading in another thread about ********* truck drivers on the highway. CRUZTAKER suggested telling the offending truck to kindly back off.. hmmm,... good idea.
So,... is there a way I could mount a descent CB in my MM without having a giant antenna stick out of my truck lid?
Thanks!
Tom

Sure Tom....you have options.
Let me first say, to obtain any type of range, transmitting or receiving, you will require an external antenna. You've seen mine, I unscrew the antanna and put a cap on when I don't want to see it.
You can buy a handheld, walkie-talkie style. It has a range of about 3/4 to 2 miles depending on the chatter on that channel. I know of a fellow here who does power mods, I can ask him if he can spike a handheld. PM me if you are interested.
Tom, re-read Macs thread HERE (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3102&highlight=wilson+1000), remember we got into great detail of CB applications. I believe I posted pics of my antenna as well.

I have a thru the glass antenna mounted on mine. Looks like a long cell repeater antenna. Seems to work okay for me as I do more listening than talking. I've also got a K-40 Magnetic mount which is current not used and in the trunk. I'm using a one-hander CB, which I don't particularly care for and after seeing others and how they have been mounted, I just may put my Cobra back in the car. There are options out there, you just have to look and ask.
And what Cruz said!

How and where did you mount the CBs in your cars?

I've seen the CB's mounted by the passenger's left foot. That looks odd and in the way to me. Can you mount them above the driver on the roof? That's what I'd like.

I have seen in a C.B. shop not too far from me that sells A C.B. radio in which you can mount the unit under the seat(if you have enough room)and detach the control face plate and mount it on your dash board. Just my .02$ cents worth:)

Cobra makes a C.B. radio that has all of the electronics in the microphone, solves the mounting issue. The antenna is another issue. Any antenna less than three feet in height is going to be inefficient. An antenna of two feet in height is 50% less efficient than a three foot tall antenna. Take my advice, C.B. radios are a very short distance two way communicator. The current sun spot activity has reduced the effective range to under three miles at best. The antenna would make the car look like hell, in my opinion. I have sold and serviced C.B. radios for 29 years. Had one in my 74 Marquis, 460ci, to thwart the 55 mph speed limit. Get an frs for the STAP run and INDY.

I found this and though I'd bring it back since we have alot of new members.
I am running a Uniden Elite series CB with a K40. I just got a magnet mount for the Wilson 1000. The trunk lip will damage the paint. The magnet is not exactly feather soft, but I *know* it will fubar the paint since I used it on my CVPI.
Perhaps we can get some pics up of mounting options.

This is where I have my Kenwood for the Rescue Squad mounted:

The antenna is a glass-mount.
EDIT: The mic mount is also no-holes-drilled as it mounts behind the trim (OEM holes) and brings two mic clips out in front of it.

Why mount it at all? I just use my $40 Wal-Mart handheld cb on long trips. Reception is sufficient for most purposes. Then throw it it the trunk when you are just cruising around town.

I made a temporary mount for my COBRA 29 WX/NW using 1/8 aluminum stock. Sit's right where the Kenwood in Rider 90s picture is.
I use a Wilson trunk lip mount. Most of the time I have the cap on it. Only mount the antenna for long/fast runs.
You can get a little window mount ... it was under $25 buck at Radio Shack. (I can't remember exact price cause it was like 4 years ago.)
Just roll the window down a little, slip the mount over the top and roll it back up. Plug what ever attenna matches the mount on the outside ... I went with a real short one (my preference, but as Barry said not best for range.) The other end plugs into my CB. I only use it for long-trips, so I wasn't concerned about permanent mounting.

That song does rock. Reminds me of the convoy of MMs we had during MVIII. And yes, the truckers did not know what to think of it all :D .
Did you see the video? That would have been a funny song to play in the backround.
