So I aleady talked to Pops and he gave me great info. Now I am looking for more.

How have you all installed XM/Sirius radios in your Marauder? I like the stock look on the inside of the car and would prefer to keep it. I also like the XM radio and so now I want the best of both worlds.

Does the Escape radio offer what I need with a an output/input so I can plug the XM radio in or does it work off of a FM station as well?

Thanks!
Anthony

I did mine off the stock radio.....

Just had to run the Sirius antennea, power and the last one is the antennea adapter to the radio.....then you just put your radio on an unused station and set up your xm/sirius to the same station and wa la. Sorry dont know about the escape radio.

The top photo is the XM/Nav antenna, It is one my STSV You could paint it the color you would like.
The other option is a smaller version on a VW, I'm not sure what it called, I know
it is the one with very low roof line.

The other is the one I have one my Impala SS. Rain never got into the trunk.

I'm gonna get the Escape audiophile radio and install a kit that I have. If that works, I'll sell the others here.

I'm not sure about the Escape audiophile Radio system.

I do know that my Alpine Nav antenna worked located inside the car,
However the XM antenna must be outside in order for the Satellites to
be tracked, otherwise it will not see them.

Russ,
I'll keep you posted when things happen.

Thank you. I will give you my best, when you are ready.

Bob,
I think you are going to have to do a little more research on
your XM antenna. It has to be out side of the car and can not
hook up to a AM/FM antenna, as that antenna is designed to
receive different frequencies than what a Satellite puts out.
Remember you are downloading a signal form 17000 miles
away. Since Sirius XM have a number of Satellite to switch
to and from as you treval and they broadcast on a specific
transponders on specific frequencies it has to transfer from
transponder to transponder on those frequencies to operate
properly.

Earlier in this thread I posted photos of two different types
that are available. I am sure there are more.

Point here is you can not receive if the antenna is inside the
car. Google this issue and see what they have to say.

They will work on the dash or in the back window most of the time. You will find a direction once in a while where the reception is intermittent.

Mercguy04
01-04-2012, 12:42 PM
That is so true.
It is looking through a window and so it can see.
There is some limitation to this set up but it will work.

I did have some trouble with my Impala SS as the windshield had some sore of
antenna built in that prevented it from receiving even the ezaypass.

So yes Pops you are correct, and I stand corrected with respect to inside mounts
Thank you.

The kit I have has its own antenna that will either be mounted on the roof or trunk lid. It is made for satellite ready Ford radios.

My antenna was originally in the upper right windshield with the GPS antenna in the upper left. This didn't work at all for the XM so I moved it down to the right side dash. Works so-so, good some days, not so good on others. I just really don't want to see that on my paint and have to worry about car washes and such.

Sounds like you are good to go.
The roof is the best place for reception.
Is its shape like the photos I posted?
I would be interested in how it looks
Thanks

Bob,
You might try the center of the dash, as far forward as possible. If that seems to work better than Left or Right side, than you will have your answer.
You may need some suction cups to hold it in place. See what happens.
Please let us know how you make out on this project.

FYI: I ran my Satalite antennea from the satalite mount, through the dash, down under the door sills, through the trunk and up around the rear window seal to the top center rear of the roof. I have been through years of carwashes with it there and it has never moved.

I also have one on the Burb, but I ran it to the top front center of the windshield on the out side....that too has been through about 2 years of carwashes and has moved very little, and has not caused any scratches.

I see the equipment you have.
As to the Box at the top it seems to have every thing you will need
The wiring harness, I hope you have enough cord to extend to the
rear of the car.
As to the Antenna, the part of the wiring that has the tubing over it
will lay on top of the roof. Believe me I don't think you will like the out
come "Looks wise" Since you already own this, I would say you can
rethink the conduit length. It will look ugly on the roof.

Before you install this antenna, please let me look and see if I have something that will more pleasing to the eye.
Hopefully tonight.

Russell,
I agree on the gawdy looking antenna. When things start rolling I'll have to decide an where I will put that thing. The instructions for it say on the rear part of the roof by the glass.

"Thru-Glass Single Lead Cable XM Antenna"

I came up with a number of sources for this and other types of antennas'
I would guess if you did that, you could find some alternatives to that
particular antenna that will work. Take a look. we can discuss further
different types of connections to you "box"

I mounted my antenna's in the space above the grill. It is far enough forward of the hood as not to be blocked. Good quality two sided tape will hold them fine. You don't even know they are there.

I ordered my Escape Audiophile radio. According to www.car-part.com in the state of Florida, there are 2 other salvage yards that have these radios for $75.

My interest in this matter is not so much in the head unit as it is in the
antenna.
I like anything that is installed on my car to look like it came from the
factory that way.
As a head unit I will install a Alpine INA W910, it is a clean install and looks
like the factory could have offered it as a option. Most that have installed
Nav, XM, CD, DVD etc have done a fine job with there install.
I have not seen where they have installed there Antennas, if at all, so now
I am concerning myself (and for you as well) a factory looking antenna
location.
There seems to be a number of choices in type of antennas. Thus we are
exploring ideas of how and where we would like place the antenna.
I posted two photos of antennas early on, both of which are just ideas.
I just spoke to VW Parts, (modal CC) and there telling me that the antenna they used on the 2009,10,11 CC uses the rear glass with built in antenna and the top mount shark fin is a booster. They went on to say that there is a wire in the blow up but they have no idea where it go to. This is hard to believe.
The only reason I suggest this particular antenna is because of its size.
It is very small. Just an idea. I will go over to VW and look it over and ask
questions.
I like the size and placement of it. I'll let you know.

Steve,
What does your post have to do with this thread?
I think it belongs in the for sale section.
If your comments were directed towards any particular person, send them a PM.
We are discussing XM Antennas, not F/S exhaust system.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Did you see the post with the photos I posted on page one.
It is a photobucket link so click on the photo and it will be larger.
I think this is what you are looking for. Additionally if you Google
XM antennas you will find a number of even newer modals.they are smaller.
Thanks for the complement
