I'm not 100% convinced an intake is a worthwhile investment on a stock engine.
A good tune and a steeper rear gear are a MUST unless you are going the boost route, in which case gears may very well be unnecessary.
Depending on how much your mileage is important to you, you might choose anywhere between a 4.10 ratio (for performance as most will tell you that it should have had from the factory) to maybe a 4.56 in the extreme (much less popular, but my theory is it'll get you down the 1/4 quickest and will feel the most "muscle car" from a dig.)
If you do nothing else for performance mods for the car, get a good tune and a steeper rear gear, PERIOD.

Tune, intake, Magnaflows/rear cat delete, gears, in that order, as money is available. Can't do them all for $1000.

If you do NOTHING else, get a tune! It's instant gratification!

In my 1st $1000 I would most certainly do Trans flush, all vital fluids flushed, then tune, then if there is money left I would do window tint, and other cosmetics.
Save the gear money until you get past the "new" and see what kind of power adder you will end up using before doing them.
Because most likely the power adder will be a "when" and not an "if".

steeper rear gear? WTF is a steeper rear gear?
And if you have a centifigual blower like a Paxton or Vortech, a ring and pinion set like 4.10's are a must.
IMHO the intake is optional, a tune and 4:10's are a must, but will put you over the $1,000.00 mark.
Consider nitrous if you're a regular at the strip. Don't recommend it for a daily driver only. Nitrous + tune should be under $1,000.00, gets you in the 13's.
A 100 shot Zex wet system with traction control module along with the above two mods, (tune & 4.10s) will put you in the high 12's low 13's with good grip tires.
Only thing I can say about exhaust is to check with your state emissions testing station.
There is no uniformity on testing - http://www.state.tn.us/environment/apc/vehicle/. A canned tune usually disables the rear cat logic circuit which may fail your emissions test. Just be aware and not sorry later.

Gears, tune, sway bars, and control arms.
Prolly over a $1,000, but I'd keep spending 'til I got 'em all.

Agreed. I may be going up to a 4.56 rear ratio and some grippy rear tires.
$1000 to spend on a stock marauder? Dyno tune, JLT intake and a set of pulleys. That should take a stock marauder out of the 15's and put it in the mid-high 14 second range. That makes it much more fun to drive.

I'm with Doom!
I would d the tune, gears and the underdrive pullies. You will get more performance for the same money!

Now that i think about, this is actually what i did first and purchased a bumper thingy can't remember the name, but prevents wind from balooning the rear bumper. Following year i did the k&n cai, sct tune, 4:10 gears and that cost more than $1,000.00!

Depending on the year and how early the car was built, plan on a set of axles. I did intake, plugs, headers with x-pipe and mufflers, Pro Guard, and DR tune on dyno. A week later, I was replacing the axles. Keep in mind the car was over 100k miles at that point.

I will echo what has been said with 1 difference.
In this order:
1) Gorilla Nuts - The System (have you seen the price of a new MM rim!!!) Cost me $40 on Amazon
Lidio Tune (best $$ you will spend)
CAI - K&N or JLT (I got my K&N new on Amazon for less than JLT)
4.10 gears
Only $750 for above, leaves $250 for WOT gassss!!! :D
