Hello all. I was driving between Memphis and Little Rock on Christmas Eve when it suddenly occurred to me that it was time to sell the WRX and buy a Crown Vic Interceptor. Strange but true. Why it didn't occur to me sooner is the mystery.
My first car ever was a 1973 Plymouth Fury ex-WV State police car. I only had it a short time, but through the years it was always my favorite - and I would always look long and hard at ex-police cars, be they Mopars, Chevys or Fords.
The surplus pool here in WV doesn't have much to pick from but I have found a lot of candidates on Auto Trader within 200 miles. The Mercury Marauder is definitely a beautiful machine, but I am hooked on the austere, no-frills 'business' look the Crown Vic Interceptors have.
First things first though, and the first step is selling the WRX. Glad to have found this community which seems to be accepting of the Marauder's close cousins.

Welcome! You might miss the gas mileage of your WRX, but Police Interceptors are a blast to drive (maybe not as fun as a Marauder, though). You'll have to keep us posted on getting a panther.

Thanks! I can already see by browsing through the threads that there is a lot of Panther terminology I'm not up to speed on yet.
Yep I will no doubt miss the mileage, but I'm sure looking forward to finding my dream car.

Welcome and good luck on your find. You should get top dollar for a awd car up north in the winter. Autotrader has a alerts when one pops up. If you find one with around 100k miles for around $8500 if it checks out buy it quick. Pm royalpita for a history report

Not knocking Marauders by any means, but those Interceptors have always been my favorite.
It's funny, I tell people I'm selling my WRX to buy a police car and I get looks like I've lost my head.

Yea the PI is a rugged car and it can take a beating. They are nice without all the weight of the police equipment in them. When I went to the academy we have PI's with a full roll cage in them:banana2: They were alot of fun lol.

If you know anyone that might be interested, feel free to pass it on. Asking $16,000 for it.
In a perfect world I'd keep it as the daily go to work car, but you know, there's that money thing :shake:

Welcome! A lot of people in WV are showing up lately. I wound up in Stafford, VA to get my P71, so traveling to find a nice one might have to happen.

I've pretty much accepted that this purchase is going to include some travel. I've seen nothing at all on AutoTrader within 50 or even 100 miles, but when I go to 200 it picks up quite a bit. Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and Pennsylvania all had some I would consider. I'm trying not to look too hard until I get the present car sold.

The traveling made the trip really fun for me. The 4 hour drive home was a fun adventure of sorts. Getting to know the car and trying to stay away from DC was interesting. Just make sure you have a source of good music. My car only had an Am/FM radio. There aren't too many stations in the mountains that could be picked up and had music I wanted to listen to, lol.

I'm good with the drive, just a little antsy about finding something decent. I know going in that whatever I find will probably need all the things that normally wear out like tires, brake pads, fluids, etc. What is really important is that the drivetrain is sound.
BTW, Slade and Mercury93 - those are some nice looking rides.

Well, looks like the first hurdle is about to fall, a buyer accepted my terms for the WRX and we're going to close out the deal on Tuesday.
In the meantime I've been poking around here and there - I think I may be headed to either Cleveland, Chicago or ....... for my P71. I like the idea of having some reconditioning work done and some kind of warranty.
So at this point maybe a 2008 Crown Vic? We'll see.

WVM, welcome to MM.net, and to the Big Xll. :D

Though I don't get on here much, and have done even less with my MM, I will vouch that it is a good site: friendly, entertaining, and lots of good resources - wish i was able to utilize them.

"Feb. 1 I'm picking up my "new" 2008 CVPI in San Antonio."

With a PI that new, and maybe with warranty, you may not want to do much with it right away, but have you seen the series in Car Craft in the build up of an older PI?

Have fun with it!

Thanks Merc - appreciate the welcome.
No, I haven't seen that Car Craft article yet but it sounds interesting. I imagine I will be keeping this ride true to stock.
You know for the last 20 years I've driven nothing but Subarus but the memories of that first Plymouth police car I started out with have kept with me and I always knew I would return "some day". Friends and family say "you're doing what???" but I just say look, it's been on my Bucket List, so now's the time. I honestly could not think of anything else to fill the bill, either. The new Dodge Chargers are nice, but they just don't have the look to me. Ditto with the Chevies too.
I'm looking forward to sifting through the threads here, but right now I'm too impatient to sit still - I want it now:rolleyes:
