i have an xcal 2, with 2 tunes on it right now that both have the parameters left open. im currently running the zack tune 2.0(the last one zack had on here before he was banned). right now the only thing done is the j-mod, i left the tune alone. i will be getting a jlt cai in a few days, and i want to know if there is anything i should change on the tune after i put the cai on? im thinking change the air/fuel ratio to be richer, since there will be more air flow, i'll need more fuel, to make more power? should i change the spark timing? i don't know, but im sure somebody here does! the car is my DD, so im not trying mess anything up, just trying to get the most out of it....safely. thanks guys--whitey

ps: if and when i get 4.10's, would i just have to change over to 4.10's on the xcal 2's parameters, or do i need to d/l the 4.10 tune off my computer?

My understanding is the MAF will automatically adjust fuel etc for it, as it will meter airflow...but I might be mistaken.

thats my understanding too, but iv'e heard with mail-order tunes, like lidio's for example, you should tell them all the upgrades you have done so they can tweak the base tune for your upgrades, such as a CAI, UDP, intake spacer, etc.--whitey

Your right to a point. But for a CAI I don't think any tune change is necessary as the computer figures it out.

Now if you had more going on than I would say to change the tune for sure.

I have a Zack tune and added a K&N CAI. There is no tune change required.

Yup! No tune change required. Your MAF reads the amount of air flowing into your engine and adjusts how much fuel to add or subtract at any given time. If it couldn't adjust for a simple CAI, it wouldn't be able to adjust for simply opening up the throttle blade. ;)

Thanks Bill! You explained it a lot better than I could!

No tune needed when installing a CAI.

I'd disconnect the battery, install the CAI then reconnect the battery (battery needs to be disconnected for at least 15 minutes). The computer will relearn, taking into account the increased airflow.
