Remove the fan assembly. It's the 2 bolts that hold the power steering reservoir and the coolant reservoir to move them out of the way then it's 2 bolts, one on each side, the plug and pop the bottom coolant line out of the holder. With it out of the way you have plenty of room to get the puller in and a air gun to zip the crank bolt off.. Remove the water pump pulley bolts before you remove the belt also make sure you use the steeda installation bolt when reinstalling the pulley onto the crank. You will also have to add a little silicone to the washer of the new bolt to prevent any oil from leaking out. The factory crank bolt is a one time use bolt. Pick up a new one from the dealer or purchase a ARP bolt from Summit racing. You may snap it if you try to re-use. Also when re-torquing the bolt, you may need someone under the car with a wrench on a convertor bolt to prevent the engine from spinning over when tightening.
Make sure you don't cross thread it and take your time with it.

I have yet to install mine because I don't have a big enough compressor to power an air ratchet to get off the crank pulley bolt. With a regular socket wrench the motor will just spin.

What Steeda installation bolt? I bought mine used.

There is a bolt that's a little longer then the stock crank pulley bolt. You use this to start the pulley onto the crank and then remove to reinstall the new crank bolt.

New crank bolt? Do you need to go get a new factory crank bolt from a ford dealer?

Yeah for $16, or get a ARP bolt for $40 and never have to worry about replacing it again.

modularmustangracing.com carries them.

Why do you need a new bolt?

Why do you need a new bolt?

The stock crank bolt is a torque to yield bolt. Which means it has a torque setting then its turned a additional 1/4 turn to stretch the bolt to hold tension. Once its tightened and stretched the bolt can't be stretched again and may possibly snap the second time you try to torque it.
The ARP bolt don't stretch so you just torque it to spec and re-use it over and over.

With the help of a friend, we used a large strap wrench on the factory crank pulley and then a breaker bar on the bolt.

Also, put a little Permatex high temp RTV on the bolt.

You don't use sealer on the bolt. You use it in the key slot in the crank pulley.

How does that work?
