View Full Version : If I were to cut into the pipes

I still have stock exhaust on the Marauder.
If I were to change now, I think I would go with Cobra headers, free flo cats, neuter the second cats and res tips delete.
Probably wouldn't do much for gains but I am concerned with NVH, if I start something along these lines.
I do love the quietness of stock, unless I unleash the fury.

When you say "Cobra headers", are you talking about the stock Cobra logs or aftermarket shorty type headers?

Cutting the back 2 cats out really changed the sound. Combined with the res-delete tips will really wake it up

Even through stock Muffies?
That's what I've got on my car, Bradley.
FRPP shorty headers, a Mac Pro Chamber mid-pipe, Magnaflow high flow cats, stock mufflers, and 4" res-delete tips.
Picked up around 25 hp, a bit louder than stock, but not bad, still quiet unless I really hammer it, and even then not "loud."

This'll probably throw off a few people of topic or something but for the mufflers what does everyone think of the Aero turbine?

Yeah, but unless that's all you plan on doing with your car...;)
Like Dave said, they are LOUD at almost any RPM level beyond idle. He had 'em on ImpalaSlayer I and it's hard to hold a conversation at highway speed, lotsa volume and drone.

If you currently have stock exhaust and changed just the mufflers out they would not be as loud as everyone is saying they are.
I have them on my car. First time was with stock exhaust manifolds, 2nd set of cats removed res-delete tips. A few people that see my car a lot noticed how much louder my exhaust was over the Flowmaster Super 40's I had on before. I changed my whole system over a year ago to full 2.5" mandrel bent stainless, still kept an H-pipe design, two Magnaflow 200-cell count cats, carried over my Aeros and res-delete tips.
There are a few ways you can go about making the car louder without changing too much. Replace the stock tips with res-delete tips, change just the mufflers, remove just the 2nd set of cats, get a custom larger mid-pipe made or get a larger over axle tail pipe section done. Any of those will increase the sound, combine 2 or more and you will get louder and gain a little horsepower.

Justbobs exhaust is perfect. Nice and quiet at idle with a really nice tone while accelerating. He then can open the electric exhaust cut outs for anything louder to obnoxiously loud.

You can have that feature turned off in a tune or simply do the Gotts mod (google is your friend) As for emission, do they visibly check? If not, no worries.

Heres my old setup. The drivers side O2 is in the manifold and right behind the front cat and on the passenger side, the O2's are right in front and in back of the front cat. It won't affect anything and nothing needs to be turned off in the tune.

I feel in love with the sound as well but still want louder now. lol
DOOM switched from his Flowmaster Super 44s to Aero Turbines and made his exhaust even more stupid loud.
The only vids I have of passing by or in-car are with my current system which is a lot louder than with just stock piping so that wouldn't really be any benefit to you. Check out my other vids if you want to see them though.
As far the second set of cats, the second set of O2 sensors are before them so it won't throw any codes and if you have a tune the rear O2 sensors are usually turned off in the tune anyways.
This'll probably throw off a few people of topic or something but for the mufflers what does everyone think of the Aero turbine?

I believe Maruader21 was inquiring about running zero cats like me. If not, then do as stated and ditch the rear cats. You still have two cats and it will not affect the tune or throw a cel.
Or if you do want to ditch the kitties, do as I recommended.
Bradley, your car would be just a tad quieter than my old set up if that helps. You also shoudn't have any drone issues whatsoever.

With only Aeros, 2.5 inch H pipe and 3 inch res delete tips ther is no problem holding a conversation at highway speeds.

Closed it will be stock 100%. Open will sound like WAR.
Get at least a 2 1/2" for future upgrades. Mine are bolt about 1" behind the Long tubes.
Can't beat the warranty and when you order you talk to the man himself you started up this company a few years ago. Very nice guy, explains everything fully, and as far as I know the only kit with a full size butterfly (on the custom systems).

If you get long tube headers you will only have room for one set of cats anyways. The headers will be the most expensive part as far as cost of part and labor. Also when doing headers it would be wise afterwards to get a dyno tune done because it will alter your air/fuel ratio.
You could do like another member did (the name escapes me at the moment) but he went with Stainless Works cat-back system and had it mated to his front stock exhaust section. Then whenever down the road you can install the headers and everything will bolt right up or at least need very little fabbing done.
Doing just the cat-back system will give you some horsepower and really increase the sound.
