View Full Version : Eaton Swap MAF options?

Are there any other options then the Ford Lightning MAF and Mafia when buying parts for the Eaton swap?
I saw SCT has some "Big Air" MAF's and was wondering if anyone has used them?
It seems like you could eliminate the need for a Mafia with one of these...
Am I correct?
Any advise is much appreciated.

I have a 90mm LMAF installed right now, but, have both the BA2600 and BA2800 in my parts cache. Yes, you can eliminate the need for a MAFia with the BAxxxx MAFs.

You may or may not require a MAFia with a 90MM MAF. Depends on the performance of the particular component on your car. I'm well below count threshold on mine, so no MAFia installed.

What do you mean by particular component?
Do you mean one Lightning MAF compared to another Lightning MAF?

Should have clarified, yes, one MAF to another. I bought a MAFia in anticipation of installation when I did my Eaton swap, but not needed; at least in my situation.

i didnt need one either. from my understanding the more of the maf you use the better. as in dont go over size

I was looking at the Lightning MAF and it says: The 90mm MAF will support up to 450 rwhp in draw through configurations and 375 rwhp in blow through.
Then the description of the smallest of the SCT Big Air, the 2600, says:
Supports 400rwhp - 625rwhp with Centrifical Blower
Supports 400rwhp - 700rwhp with Roots Blower Applications
Wondering what the downside would be with using the SCT with more capability?
FYI,
I don't plan on doing anything else to the engine besides the Eaton Swap and maybe headers as I am fully content with 450rwhp as my limit...Not saying I'll necessarily reach that number.
I'm also wondering if I could bypass another component to the Eaton Swap and have one less part to have to put on, but not sure if there's any pro's or con's to it?
(the thinking is: buy the SCT and not have to deal with the possible variance of one Lightning MAF to another)
Any advise?
Trying to shop as wisely as I can...

Then you'll be fine with the 90mm LMAF as they said. I jumped the gun in assuming what your goal was. I'll be seing more than 500rwhp. That's why I'll need the other MAF.

The SCT's are on ebay (new) for $230 shipped
The price looks about the same either way you go.
from my understanding the more of the maf you use the better
Wondering what's a downside to not using more of the MAF?

Going back to your original post, don't over-analyze this, if you can get a good deal on a 90mm MAF, go with it, if you can get a similar MAF for less, grab it and don't look back; either way you'll get good performance for your Eaton swap.

i used my stock MAF . with 10psi got 355rwh tune by Lidio. did as close to triogy spec. as i could

Must be referring to "resolution" that the tuner is involved with in tuning a car.
You dont need it. Stick with your stock one.
