I am looking for a decent Tensioner somewhere around the $200 mark would be nice as no tensioner is worth $4 in my book. Just the stock one has been great for years, I just want to upgrade from that. I have seen some 3 hole units listed for 03-04 Cobra's and under the notes for other applications this fits they also list 05-10 GT engine accessory tensioner. When I go to look this up in reverse, it says nothing about fitting and 03-04?

Been looking at this one here:
http://www.blueovalchips.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=311

Any negative comments? The only thing I didn't care for was the "good to 500 RWHP" as I plan to exceed that. Would that number go up with an idler pulley if I can find a way?

Ya may want to check with Merc....... I don't know what the one he installed on his Marauder cost, but it looked to be a billet piece.

I'm running the stock Trilogy tensioner for now, 3.0 pulley with a smaller belt to help out belt slippage. Last time I went WOT to do some data logging I think I heard the belt slipping. Once I get my dual pump setup installed I'll give her a good punch and hope no more slipping is there or see if I was just hearing things.

So is this like a double tensioner? Why do you want to replace the stock Trilogy one? So far a lot of higher HP cars have used it with no problems. I always believe if it's not broke don't fix it. Cause you cause more problems buy tampering.

After I had Darrin rebuild the trans, 2nd and 3rd, I would loose boost when the tires stuck on the shift, + the belt screamed when it slipped. it doesn't slip anymore.:D

Of course now, with another 100ft lbs of torque, all it does is smoke the tires, it never hooks. :burnout:

As far as to why replace something, that works....

I replaced my motor, the stock one ran fine.
I replaced my transmission, still worked.
I replaced the driveshaft, stock worked OK
I replaced my brakes for Wilwoods, stock brakes worked but sucked.
I should have started with a marauder with no driveline or interior, it would have been cheaper, but..........I believe anything can be improved, broke or not, so, why not make an improvement?

The Roush one doesn't look any stronger then our stock Trilogy ones. I would say that Thumper RRR one looks stronger and claims to hold for vehicles over 500hp.

I have the Roush one it does look farily similar to a Trilogy but never looked at them up close to compare. As for the Roush I run 20 lbs boost and have never once had belt slippage other then when it was 25* out but I attribute that to making more power/boost cause so cold out.

It has a built in idler Bob. I'm sure a lot of R&D went into this to make it stable. Very nice unit right there, and if this was all I needed, i'd bite. Problem is the other $4000.00 on my shopping list! Trying to be reasonable with my spending to make it all work, but hard to take short cuts when I see such pretty jewelry...

? No pics.. Thump makes many different styles. Don't need a grooved pulley either. From my research, and I could very well be wrong, it appears the Trilogy tensioner is a 76 MM and the same as the stock accessory belt tensioner on the 03-04 Cobra. Please correct me if I am wrong.

BTW Thump never did return my email.

Yes. Both tensioners.

I would say hell no on the Trilogy. Reason, is the way the pulley mounts on the blower. Eaton uses screws as does the Whipple. Super tensioners like the Thumper (using a dual tensioner) will spin a keyed pulley like the Trilogy aluminum upper pulley. Use the steel 3.4 for high tension options. Ask me how I know.

This is a picture of the rear side of a Trilogy A/L 2.8 pulley from my car. Notice the inner circle were the key was located. It's no longer round and key slot is damaged badly. Thumper RRR killed this pulley.

The pulley is Dayco# 89048 and is always in stock at Advance auto for $28.00 so its not worth it used. You could also just pop a new bearing in the pulley for $9.00.

Thanks for the info, but that part number is just the pulley, unless I'm reading it wrong. I was looking for the whole tensioner. I'm trying to locate some missing pieces for my incomplete Trilogy kit I bought a few years ago. The install was delayed due to a tight wallet but my goal is to have it installed before Carlisle this year. My wallet is still tight, but it's killing me having a Trilogy sitting in my garage for the last two years and now I just want to put it in, so I want to buy parts used when ever possible. I'd still be interested in it after you do the swap. Since the pulley is only $28, I'll probably just put a new one on the tensioner before I install it.

You can have it! But the reason I am selling it is because I have lost 2 pounds of boost from it being wore. It has 60,000 miles on it. It can be replaced with Motorcraft number 2R3Z-6B209-AA and also you need to swap the pulley with the number I gave you plus grind off a small part of the tensioner. I have a drawing of the needed modification I can send you later if needed.

Installed the new Thump one tonight. I regained a full pound of boost back, 10 flat at 58*. That seems about right. After I tried a new tighter belt, it had actually dropped all the way down to 9! Yeah, that old tensioner was junk.. I'm still getting a nasty belt chirp if I let off quickly while still in first, maybe the accessory tensioner? That belt is pretty new as well.

Currently running just a 3.2 upper. If I could actually find the time, i'd love to go in for a retune with the +4 lower and or the 2.8 upper I have along with a killer chiller.

Curious, did you get the extension with the S197 extension arm? That combination got rid of my belt chirp and lost boost.

No Darrin. If you are speaking of the one like yours, I did not. Considering I gained a pound back, it has way more tension, and the fact the chirp is the exact same sound, it leads me to believe it is coming from the other belt. The car has almost 90,000 miles now plus being 10 years old now, I'm sure the accessory one is going soft as well. Baby steps, I'll get her figured out.

Just installed the Thumper last PM , my first impression:eek: Nice!!!
You can tell I have not wrenched much lately, instead of installing two of the bolts and moving the arm manual for the third, I made a big deal out of it and went to the FLAPS for a bolt with no shoulder.
So after another unecessary trip I lost the example bolt in my travels, so I had to use the ones I purchased anyway requiering yet another trip to the store for flat washers!
Did I say I love my tensioner!

Good deal Bro! I gained almost 2 #'s of boost back with my Thumper! I noticed the new one was quite a bit thicker than the old so I purchased three longer bolts.

We had to redesign the belt travel on mine between the crank and the S/C pulley. This is with the Thump Tensioner now. Took this earlier today once they got the belt back on. With the extra pulleys we added we ended up with a 71" belt.
