View Full Version : Great New Headlights; Thanks, Lightwerkz!

As we all know, the Marauder headlights are, to be charitable, awful. I've been looking for a replacement to improve vision for a while, and initially settled on the HID Headlight Bulb conversion from DDM Tuning, which I installed and ran for about two years. Great lights, and the 5K bulbs were as bright as I wanted. At the time, I had a VW GTI with Bi Xenon Projector headlights that I really envied, but thought the DDM Tuning kit was the best I could do. Turns out I was incorrect.
When I read about rossv's projector conversion (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=69744&highlight=Lightwerkz), I knew that's what I was looking for. I discussed it with Caesar at Lightwerkz (http://www.lightwerkz.net) and he set me up with exactly what I wanted - a 5K Bi-Xenon Projector set of headlights. These things are great! Aside from some wiring harness mysteries that got resolved with Caesar's help, they are in, they work, and the headlight pattern is great! Finally, the Marauder ain't blind.
Lightwerkz sent me some pictures (http://www.lightwerkz.net/news/2012/01/18/marks-mercury-marauder-fxr-projector-conversion/) of the lights post-modification.
The pictures below (not great - from a smartphone camera) are of the lights on the car (with the reflector painted gloss black). Expensive? Yep. Worth it for driving at night? You betcha.
Now, all I gotta do is find some 5K fog light bulbs and I'm set.
(And, before you ask, SGT_MERC has already purchased the old lights.)

Hey man congrats on the lights. I was concemplating on painting the insides dark as well but i didn't know how they would look on my car. Caesar contacted me yesterday telling me another member got the lights done as well. He is always extremely helpful, too bad you don't live close to their shop like I do. Enjoy them.

Looks great. I'm going to self retrofit a set of morimoto* projectors when the weather gets better again. Would you take some pics so we can see the light distribution from the drivers perspective. I want to know what I have to look forward to )

What are the odds of getting a group buy going for these? I realize it's a conversion, but hey I can wish.

I'd consider if the price is right.

did you get any accent lighting done along with the projectors, like rings or leds? they look good. I know you've got to be loving the light pattern.

Oh do they look sweet. Are the Bi xenon 5000k the FXR Projectors or did LightWerks use some alternative projector ?

Yep - these are the FXR Bi Xenon Projectors (Morimoto, I believe). 5K bulbs (i.e., pure white).

Nope- I'm a Reserve Deputy Sheriff here in Loudoun County, Virginia. The last thing I need is to get called out for something that requires driving up all dark, and having the angel eyes give the car away.

Done. Don't fall outta your chair.:)

I'm trying to persuade Caesar (at Lightwerkz) to become a sponsor here, since he already has two happy customers. Maybe some more emails'd do the trick.

Sure. And I'll use a real camera this time. The low-beam setting is somewhat shaped by the lens in the headlight bucket. With high beams, I'm counting craters on the moon.

Other than the vaguely named "gloss black," no.

Did you retain a proper beam pattern? It appears the factory reflector is no longer in use (black paint and HID bulb recess). Do the HID lights include their own reflector for beam shaping? Is the end result adjustable via the factory mounts?
Many HID retrofits suffer from improper beam throw. Hope you were able to address this.

I think it looks pretty sweet on an SB, def better looking than on a black MM.
