Sometimes you gotta fidget around with autofocus, or maybe his autofocus was turned off, and was manual focused for macro, which is why the speedo is in focus :P

There is a ald saying in television, and it go's for still cameras as well
."When in dough, stay out."
What that means is zoom out and walk (Truck) in on the shot. it will start to focus as you come closer to the subject. Auto focus is okey but it doesn't always work. and
each of us has different vision. What my seem in forus to one, may not be in forus to another,
So a wide open leans is your answer to focusing..It is a little more involved
than that, but that is the short of it. Unless your intent is soft focus.
I learn this during my television days at Columbia Univ's Television courses. it was fun.
