I have some spare niteshades in my garage and was wondering what kind of tape should i use to cover up the little painted strip on the bottom of the tailight?? Can i just pop it off??

And yes i have done this before on my wife's sonata, 2 shades and clearcoated 4 layers, turned out pretty good, will be doing it this weekend.

Yes, the lower strip on the tail lights "pops" off but you want to be careful when doing so. Those little tabs can break real easy so use light and easy pressure and take your time.

I would also suggest taking the entire light off the vehicle. Less taping you have to do.

Speaking of taping, I use automotive green tape. 3M. It holds lines real well.

Anyway, good luck!

I put niteshades on my previous tails and loved it! I really like the S55 look as well, it is something to think about...

Just tape the strip. You're asking for it if you start trying to pry it off.

The taillight trim wasn't designed/meant to be removable.

As duhtroll noted, just mask it off before tinting.

well it went kinda bad at first, sanded with 2000 grit as i did before, cleaned them, then i started spraying. everything was going fine till i got to the second clear coat, sprayed too much and it started running. I had some acetone in the house so i went and grabbed that and just started pouring it on, BAD IDEA!!!!! yes the acetone takes the clear and the niteshade off pefectly but even though the bottom strip was taped off i got some bubbling on the painted strip.:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2: so i ended up popping the strips off, and just for the record those strips dont pop off they break off

Looks good!

How did you reattach the bottom strip since you discovered that they don't pop off?

Pretty sure you can take the strip to paint shop and have it fixed perfectly.

i used 3M double sided automotive tape, it was like 6 bucks at advance auto parts

The biggest cost is going to be the set up, if you have anything else you would want painted now is the time. It is expensive to mix and the supplies. The cost to do additional parts when you already have everything ready normally is very little.
