Hello, all -

Just wanted to drop in and say "sup," as this seems like a legit place with helpful members and an active community --so happy the forum is Tapatalk enabled. http://www.thechicagogarage.com/forum/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif I'm currently shopping for a Marauder to take on daily driver duty, replacing my 2000 GTP coupe. Otherwise, I have a 1998 Trans Am for the summer.

A few of the Marauders for sale here look enticing and in much better condition than the ones locally. I'm going to get behind the wheel of one and make sure it meets my driving experience expectations, and then members with cars for sale may be hearing from me soon. I'm willing to take a road trip to get the right car.

I'm a moderator on a local Chicago car forum and everybody gets pissed when newbs don't post pics or vids of their cars, so here's a pic and vid of my T/A. Please excuse the 4X4 stance, stock wheels and hood, which are all getting much needed attention this year.

Get a Marauder, you will be in great company there with the Midwest Mafia aka Windy City Crew aka you don't count because your zipcode doesn't say Chicago. (Last one is an inside joke.)

Thanks, guys.

Here's the Marauder I looked at yesterday. Looked like a daily driver with usual surface rust underneath. The paint wasn't very well maintained but the car has a sunroof and heated seats, two options I'd really like. It's been sitting for days/weeks as the snow was piled on and then melted, plus the rotors were bright orange from the rust after sitting for so long. It's filthy. But the body looked good and the wheels were in great condition with new tires and brakes.

If you can get the VIN, send PM with it to RoyLPita, he can run an OASIS report on the car for you.

What's the milage and how did the under hood look? It may have been very well taken care of and just looks a little grubby because it is on a lot. Diamond in the rough.

Bru

80,000 miles. A 2004. Went on a Sunday so couldn't see under the hood but will be back next Saturday to drive it.

The Carfax read clean, but by no means is a Carfax infallible. The driver's side of the hood stuck up higher than the passenger side, which I'm hoping is just the stops and not an alignment problem because the hood has been off for repairs.

They're asking $13,500. I'd be interested for $11k. Is that unreasonable? Who knows if the dealer will budge but there are nice rides on here with the same miles for around $11-ish.

RubberCtyRauder
01-30-2012, 10:53 AM
I thnk $13,500 is high for the mileage/year round used. You will always pay higher at a dealer than an individual selling. Bottom line dealer has to make money as they have expenses, but some people need that for financing, a trade-in etc. I would say the car is worth between $11k and $12k. Most prices are where a dealer is willing to start at for negotiating and most used cars have a 5 to 10 % negotating zone plus or minus a few depending on how "hot" the car is in for demand. My guess is the dealer is hoping for $12k to $12.5 selling price.. My two cents

5 or 6 cans of undercoating at $3.79 each will make the underside of the car look great.

I'd like to keep it at $11,500 or less, and 80,000 miles or under unless service records are available. Also, would like heated seats and a sunroof. Tall orders, I know.

Sunroof cars are pretty rare. They were only offered as factory options (albeit installed by a contractor off the assembly line) in 2004, and although I've never heard a definite number, the estimates that have been thrown out there are less than 200 cars equipped with them.

Bru
01-30-2012, 02:40 PM
Definitely. It's odd that there are two in my area for sale right now. Both heated seat cars. One is 20 miles south, and the other 20 miles north, both with 80-90,000 miles.

I think it's a sign: "Buy now"

I had Hans install my 4.10 gears and some misc welding for me.
And I had Tim Barth do my dyno tune after Justbob and I were finished with my supercharger install.

Im looking forward to Deans open house again. Hans had a great turnout last year.

Heck yeah. My cousin and I drove down to Georgia to have Tim work on his Kenne Bell Mustang GT back when it was MPH. I figure anyone worth driving to Atlanta for work knows his stuff.

And I'll definitely be at the Dean's open house this year, either with the TA or Marauder if I pick one up.

Drove that 04 tonight with 80,000 miles in Plano. What a pile. It was a smoker's car and not taken care of at all. It pulled violently to the right and the interior's plastic pieces were flaking and stained. Under the hood was stained with salt deposits and surface rust.

But, this confirmed one thing. The Marauder is going to get the job done. For a big car I love how it stops and definitely would like to find one with 4.10 gear to get it in the powerband quicker. It's exactly what I want for a daily driver: comfortable, roomy but still has some balls and attitude. Reminds me of my first car, a 1990 Caprice squad car, but nicer in every way.

Had a few people reach out to me from the classified section since I joined. Looks like I have a few more options now.

Yes. Try to find one from here and youll get a winner for sure!!

But I bought mine from Carmax (Hillside) in March of 09. 24,000+ miles and in minty condition. Red with the light flint interior. So there are some nice ones out there.

Hey Bru, not to rush you or anything :p but the annual Lousiville event is only like 85 days away and this is a NOT MISS event! We convoy out of here from the regal 30 cantera theaters, meet up with about 40/50 trouble makers, er nice people, and do tours, get drunk, wrench on cars, drink, have police escorts to events, "non police" escorts if that's your thing, sip brew in large containers, relieve the midnight hotel greet staff of their duties for approximately 34 minutes, get loopy and disappear leaving behind our glasses, jacket, and phone in the lobby (Rex...), actually work the front counter while said staff is busy taking care of other members here (Brad!), GREAT company of fellow peeps you only see once a year, giving the hotel staff a sideways showing of exibition style burnout runs.

All in all just a great time for everyone involved. So much to do and different directions you can take to suit your needs. Something that we anxiously await every year.

I have a 2003 black N/A that will be going up for sale for $13,250.00 by this weekend. I'm waiting to pick it up before I list so I can post picts. It has 58k on the clock and I just put my engine with 64k in it. It as 4.10's and the rest of the car is back to stock. I bought it because it had a built motor and a Trilogy S/C. That is now in my car. The car is in great shape with a chin spoiler, badgeless grill, and a new pioneer stereo. It is at Mo's Speed Shop here outside of the Atl. Some members know the car. It's in great shape. If your not interested that's ok as well. I'll be posting it up this weekend sometime.
