I have a set of Cobra Shorties and was wondering what the positives and negatives would be of using header wrap on them? Was going to see if powdercoat would work but I'm doubting it will so I figured I would use some wrap but wanted to check first. Thanks.

I got my shorties Jet-Hot coated.... the only way to go.

But if that option was a no go what do you think?

I believe they are a kind of cheaping-out solution for the short term.

If you are trying to keep under-hood temps down, a coating solution would be better, regardless of price. Protects the headers a bit better and is a more consistent thermal barrier.

Another thing I've seen mentioned is that in some cases non-coated wrapped headers have higher instances of rust due to the fact that moisture can get trapped in the wrapping a lot more readily than it would just burn off the bare header. This is completely unscientific though, as I've only heard it from a number of guys via hear-say.

I would recommend against wrapping them.

Can't use powdercoating either since it melts at about 390 to 400 degrees.

justbob has some experience with wrapping headers, may want to send him a PM to get more info, but +1 on ceramic coating vs. wrapping option.

+ 3 on Rex and BluGray said.
I tried to use the wrip on a set of hookers a few years ago, the headers were even
coated and still they rusted through.
The reason Nascar uses these wrips is because, not only does it keep the under hood
temp down, but they change the wrapping after every race. More than likely the
headers as well.
Unless you do as the Nascar guys do then, Please stay away from the wraps, in the end it will be cost prohibitive. Good luck with your project.

i do like the look of them wrapped though, looks pretty neat on rat rods and stuff

I've wrapped before on other cars. I like the looks, works well, but not for ever. I chose to really cheap out on my current long tubes and just paint them! Been on now for about six months and plenty of miles, still looks REALLY good! Good amount of prep, paint, and clear. $30 Done.

Thats my plan on the mustang I'm putting together. It's all in the prep!

I am planning on putting the "wrap" on the RV exhaust plumbing to try and reduce the cabin temps. It really gets warm in the foot wells.

What if I wrap the headers and then coat them with the DEI silicone headers wrap spray to seal it? Any thoughts?

I would do either or not both.

The only real problem with header wrap is if it gets any moisture on it will retain it and can cause rust spots.

Just talked to my powder coat hook up and he advised me he does have a high heat header coating so they will be getting a black paint job soon! Can't wait to get the exhaust completely done!:banana2:

.....Jesus give me streeeeeeennnnnngth!......

But seriously. I wrapped headers on my ol Z-28, it caused them to rust faster. I have headers on the Corvette, not wrapped, they seem to hold up fairly well. When I go with headers on the Marauder, got to be something other than flat black, white, or wrapped with anything. Just seems like a waste.
