1- 6sp manual is all I know of. You say 6sp Auto, Taking a guess you mean like Ford's new tranny in the Coyotes? From things I have read about Cant see how could be able to. Then You also got the MM PCM to contend with those are just 1st 2 issues. Maybe Iam wrong but dont see it happening.

all the effort to do a transmission swap just to stick with an auto wouldnt be worth it imho

Can't be told no I you don't ask....
Just looking for options, something that will help with performance / mileage / cool factor don't hurt either
The new Ford(Borg Warner;)) 6r trans has been around since 2006 in the V8 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineers. It has received some improvements since then and some downgrades in bushing material(aka leaks). It is a great trans that was designed to work with the use of a CAN network there are no individual inputs for Pids. It will not work until someone make a stand alone controller that will tap into the CAN network this is a lot of programing and user end wiring work. The TCI 6speed is the best 6speed option but has poor gear ratios and a lot of cost IIRC @ 6-7 grand. Stick to a built 4R70/75 trans at the time this is the best trans option for our car IMHO.

Exactly! I just went the short version, even though it has been in use for a few years how it was set up in the mustangs Tuners intially had some difficulty tuning them really well.

The built TCI is based off a modified GM 4L80E trans. I looked into this last year and just built up a 4R75W valve body hd components for half the price with torque converter r&r and supporting 600rwhp.

Yeah, I thought that was a 4L80E? I am in the same boat as the OP. I would really like to come up with a strong 6 sp. But lack any knowledge in tuning. Do they not offer any kind of non electric versions? IE kick down cable FTW!

The 6L80 will bolt up to a 4.6L motor, you may need a few custom parts like driveshaft and ofcourse you'll need a separate driver for the trans to control shifts.

bigcars4ever, thanks for the tip. I actually am going to keep pursuing this some. Will be my DD and fun car, performance / better MPG don't typically go hand in hand, but one can keep looking for it...
How deep into this did you look?

Driveshaft, no brainer, separate driver for trans..... ummmm thinking might come at a heafty price...
$2K (thats high price) on 6L80
$100 driveshaft
???? driver for the trans to control shifts...
wouldnt this be the same issues as using the coyote 6 speed (stick with at least ford stuff)?

Wow this is awesome. What a cool invention. I'm kinda surprised vendors aren't using this topology out of the factory. Transmissions are getting really expensive.

This is very intriguing. Will have to keep this in mind when my transmission gets rebuilt.

Follow up....
This setup would run $2895 Plus the ride.
Pro's and cons.
Pro's:
Under 600-650 HP, could use the 1/2 gears and would help.
O/D definitely taller (they call it Double overrdrive), would keep tach at or under 2K rpm at 75 with stock gears
Easy bolt up and switch or push button on floor for engaging half gears.
Con's:
over 650 HP, the only advantage would be the taller O/D (mileage)
If want 2nd half gear would have to manually put car in second at launch and when car is ready for half gear, push button or flip switch, when ready for 3rd gear switch to 3rd and turn off switch at same time.
Stated that on track between 2nd and 3rd would be only gear that this might be used for.... maybe
I am sure I missed asking several questions (not a mechanic, but I know how to pay for one, but this was what I discovered in my conversation with them.
For those paying attention to this thread, WHAT is your thoughts!!!

They offer a controller that will automatically shift in between gears. There were a bunch of threads on this a few years back but the consensus was that you would never save enough in gas to pay for it. I find them on ebay every now and then as pull offs from trucks.

Interesting, I mentioned how the shifting seemed more of a mistake waiting to happen for me and that it was my DD and unless it provided true performance, I would almost never do that manual shifting....
even or poss. expecially if was on strip.... (unless I all of a sudden become coordinated....)
Never mentioned it at all.... even asked what else I could use, twice.....

Always wanted to do it. The overdrive multipler is .78 -- soooo let's say you put in 4.30 gears - Final ratio with the overdrive would be equal to having a 3.35 rear end ring gear. Very cool.

Just wanted to say this thought is just that, still a thought.....
I know DR missed it was an Auto tranny thread not manual, but it was also a thought in my head (lots of room up there for thoughts)
I will bug bodyman and any others that will talk to me about it.... its a fever... MOD FEVER!!!!
