View Full Version : Adding boost to your Marauder

I know this has been discussed before, just looking for updated thoughts/opinions.
If you were able to purchase say a new Trilogy kit if one was available or do a eaton swap if you had the parts or a vortech kit on your 70,000 to 90,000 mile Marauder, would you spend the $$ to do it? Which one would you prefer? trilogy, eaton, vortech?
I know it is most likely cheaper to purchase another already boosted Marauder, but if you already own one it logisticly makes sense to boost what you have rather than buy, and sell your n/a one.
Thanks for your thoughts/opinions

Boost it and don't looks back. The best bang for the buck is an eaton swap

Having both a vortech and a trilogy, I would say it all depends on how often you drive your car. If it's your DD I would say go with the vortech, its a little better on fuel if you keep your foot out of it, but if you want low end tire shredding power, then the trilogy/eaton is what you want. It's the primary reason I'm thinking about switching the setups on my cars bc I drive my trilogy daily and my wallet suffers from the use of fuel.
Trilogies are no longer being made.
Stopped at #250.

Also, there's always the turbo route, but that's gonna take some work

Deals on superchargers don't come that often, so if one presents itself, jump on it and don't look back.

I just added boost as of yesterday (Thanks again Mo's) I would do it and never look back.
I went with the vortech, because that was the deal available (thanks Chris)
But all three are better than n/a
I know there is an eaton swap and a trilogy thread about plusses and minuses, so I'd check those out.
As far as my vortech, it's only been a day, but one filled with a whole lot of smiles :D

Brad,
Does it make the same whine as a Trilogy?

No, the blowers sound very different.

That's great to hear form someone who has both, I haven't been around her much until lately as these kind of discussions always got out of hand and things got ignorant and personal.
7 years ago when I was debating I drove a trilogy car and a vortec, the trilogy was just bad @$$ off the line but the vortec felt like it never stopped pulling. Two different animals both great. There was more history (all be it little) with vortec installations so I went that route. The trilogy seemed to be a much better overall kit though.
To do it again I'd go with what ever one is cheapest, as they both are great, and make sure its a well thought out kit, in the end the more expensive up front cost could be the cheapest solution because of the installation.

Have had 2 MM's with Vortechs Both were great cars, now my third is powered by a 2.3 Whipple. The power that can be had from both is great. My opinion overall the Vortech is a easier blower on the motor cause not really pushing boost thru motor until 3400ish rpm & up. now if you want instant power a Eaton type of set up is way better. Another thing that I would consider is were I live due to heat the air 2 air Vortech is better when it is super hot out were the eaton type is effective performance wise when really hot out. other then that it is a matter of choice.

I picked the Eaton Swap. I was really close to buying a Trilogy kit. But I could not help but get over the $7,000+ price tag. With that said.
I payed $4,000 for the Eaton swap, mostly new parts along with my dyno tune. Took the extra $3,000 and bought front Wilwoods, SS brake lines, rear spoiler, extra gauges, Addco front sway bar and Moog end links, (already had the rear Addco bar & Zac & Mac control arms) and shorty headers.
So for less than the price of the Trilogy I was able to improve most aspects of my Marauder.
That's my story and I am sticking with it :burnout:

I absolutely LOVE my Trilogy! But with that said, they are ALL FUN! I've driven every example except whippled and vortec'ed so far and every one had plus's with Zero minus! But like the way I live life (instant gratification) I surely can't complain about the raw low RPM power my kit gives off!!

What are your hp and tq numbers?
I think Joe's 400-teens for both HP and TRQ.
I'm at 423 rwhp and 411 trq with mine, and that's leaving a little on the table with the tune.

Merc410 just listed a sweet kit for a killer price . Good opportunities don't go away. They just go to other people. If oyu have the coin go for it.

It's already in the works, just working out the logisitics of the transaction/shipping and it is a done deal.
Thanks to All who gave input thru here and my pm's I decided to go with this vortec kit from member Merc410 as the whole uninstalled kit and price made the most sense and allows $$ to be put to other mods to make it a complete package of boost, performance etc.
