I was talking to the auto body guy today who is repairing Ms. Denmark's car after the Bambi incident.
We were not able to get a painted SB grille as Ford is out of the colors so we got a black unpainted grill. Upon inspection of the old grill the black insert appears painted either black or a dark charcoal. The new black grille is just the shiny black plastic as it comes out of the mold.
The auto body guy was wondering if anyone knew what color the original insert color is. A DuPont paint code would be great if you have it. He said Ford has no listing of the paint code that he can find and this is a Ford repair shop.
The rest of the car looks good and should be ready to go soon.
Thanks for your help

I would guess that it is the same black used on the Black Marauders. Codes are below .... supplemented with the parts number for the touch up tubes.
FORD Color Codes from a really old thread ...
UA=Black (PMP-19500-1724A)
JP=Silver Birch (PMP-19500-7052A)
JL= Dark Toreador Red (ALBZ-19500-6771A)
DX= Deep Pearl Blue (PMP-19500-7083A) in the parts department.

I believe it to be a semi gloss black, I have never seen a SB with the insert shiny. He can single stage it with a flattening agent, that should do the trick.

It is just plain black plastic - no paint.

Mr. Man and Paula
Glad to hear that the SB is out of Intensive Care.
With some rehab, she'll (he'll) be back to his/her former self.
I've been looking into getting my own mesh and bending it with a template (saw it on TV) to give me a no emblem grille.
Continued condolences to Paula (from a Member of the SB Society).
Speedy recovery, Paula/SB.

You might be on to something there Darrin. I'll talk to the auto body guy Monday and see what he thinks.
The grille that got smashed wasn't that old as I replaced it about a year beforehand as it was missing a tooth. I have the old old grille with the missing tooth and I'll take that one with me and we will compare the two.
I know it's not the shiny black that the new one is. Will come up with a close match.:)

LOL! I was waiting for someone to ask..:D The garage (Ford) is just a couple miles from our house and we know the guys there. We don't need her car anytime soon, so there has been no rush to have it back.

Hope you recorded the mileage on the odometer. Otherwise it may be returned to you with an extra 4000-5000 miles on it. Has been known to happen on occasion. ;)

I don't think that part was painted at all. It just sounds like the dulling of the old plastic in the weather. If you want, I can pull my new grill out of the closet/box and see what it looks like.

What color is your new grille? If it's SB we would appreciate knowing what the teeth look like. I had to order a Black grille (which has to be painted SB).
