If it had cats, would it be legal? How would it sound on a Marauder?

depends on the year of the car

In theory, to have cats and muffler(s) SHOULD be all it needs to be legal.
However, most places follow backwards law that basically says if the cats have been relocated at all from the factory placement (which is pretty much a given for any long-tube header setup), it isn't passable.
One good rule of thumb though: if the exhaust setup comes with a C.A.R.B. number, it should be street-legal everywhere.

The e-brake cable rubbing on the drive shaft? Probably! :D

How would these straight pipes sound? No X or H pipes.

why would you want to do that?

Divorced pipes sound pretty raw, and most times can cause a drop in horsepower by a marginal amount (I believe it is because it hurts the scavenging effect of the exhaust system).
I'm not sure if it's universal (and if it is, why it happens), but most any time I've heard divorced pipes on a vehicle, they tended to backfire a hell of a lot. :/

It's legal until someone who cares looks under there. H pipes have a deeper tone as well... just sound better than a x pipe IMO.
Don't know if it's legal but it looks damn nice, love the white headers.

It would sound like a '79 Chevy pick up cruising the back roads of Tennessee minus the cherry bombs.

Will sound like poo. Get a really high pitch chatter like a glass pack. Sounds like crap on a MM. Whwn i first did my exhaust the exhaust guy misunderstood me and straight piped it. It was cra.ked driven about 75ft and put back on lift to make it an h pipe. Cut out all the "pitchyness" and "cracking"

Nothing beats the loud crackling sound of a JC Whitney equipped SBC!
9 out of 10 mullet heads approve of straight pipes.
What part are you referring too the turn downs right after the mufflers, since that is showing what appears to be a pre-cat car. If that is your question then no that wouldn't be "legal" in most jurisdictions if they notice.
In regards to a dual exhaust w/o a crossover of some sort you will loose a little low-mid range torque vs a properly located crossover or X pipe. You'll also get more the distinctive V8 note w/o the crossover.

if it is on a pre catalyst vehicle then it is legal to a point
cats would tone it down
dumps on a marauder would drive you insane on the highway or any long stretch of constant driving

It was legal whereI grew up. My 427 Chevelle had full exhaust, but many friends ran a straight set up. They had to turn the ends down at the axel or Johnny Law would get you. They also ran the tips out the sides. Was hell on your ears.

The Magnaflow system that is sold for the CV/GM does not have a crossover or a X pipe. I had purchased and installed one on my LX Sport.
The system that is on the 08 GM I just bought, is the same as what was on the Sport. It does sound good, the pipes go all the way to the rear(as opposed to the dumps in the picture) and my e brake cable is nowhere near my driveshaft. It sounds just as the other car did, I did think of changing it to something a little quieter though, being a GM an all.
