I love the oil but not happy with the oil filter. I get start-up clatter using the RP filter and my engine is quiet on cold start-ups using a Motorcraft one.

I love RP. First change you can feel your engine operating a little more freely.
All I use is royal purple or mobil-1

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that besides me.

I use RP or Mobil 1 in my MM. Used them in my 97 Camaro SS I had too.

No reason to switch. RP is an excellent oil, but so are Mobil1, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline Synpower, QS Ultimate Durability and Castrol Edge...just to mention a few. Any of them will give you superior service.

I have been using Mobil one since the early nineties in all my cars. I used to own a white 1986 Mustang GT at that time, and wrecked it. I parted it out and sold the engine to a friend of mine. The car had 120,000 plus miles on it and the machine shop he took the engine to couldn't believe the condition of the inside of the engine was from a car with that many miles on it. They said there was minimal wear, and they could still see the cross hatch pattern on the cylinder walls. Mobil one for life! I'm sure Royal Purple would yield the same results.

Personally I think Mobile 1 is just as good if not better than RP.
I'd like to see an oil analysis between an engine that uses RP and one the uses Mobile 1.
Anyone up for a challenge?
It will cost you $25.00 for the analysis.
We'll use this place: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
Need to have MM's with similar mileage..... mine has about 75k on her.
Rules:
Roughly the same mileage on the motor. Picture of the odometer will be enough proof.
You must have used RP at every oil change (I've used Mobile 1 at every change, after the first 10 miles).
We use http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ for the analysis
You pay your $25.00, I pay my $25.00.
We both agree to publish the results on MM.net.
Any takers?

I love Royal Purple but like Blackened stated stick with Motorcraft filter. The biggest thing I noticed that made me permanently switch from Mobil is that when I changed Mobil one it was dark and burned and nasty the RP came out as Purple and nice as it went it.

I used Royal Purple for awhile but then leaks developed. So I switched back to regular brands and leaks went away.

I still use Royal Purple however in my old box Crown Vic ex-cop. No leaks.

Placebo effect? If it was THAT good, everyone would be using it.

Amsoil FTW, and yes you can hear it, and see it in your temp gauge, oil pressure and MPG.
Google it.
I'm running the Dominator series 5W-20 in the MM
Their HD diesel in the Sprinter
And 0W-20 in my 96 F150 that turned 220,000 miles last week, the valve covers have never been off, the front and rear main seals are original. As is the transmission.

Royal Purple is hideously expensive, and does not give any benefit in normal use. Unless you run 15,000 mile oil change intervals it hardly is worth the extra$$ Draining out the RP in 5K miles might as well use any old synthetic instead.
