Just keep the 3:55 gears and learn the methods of coasting!

putting a lower gear that the 3.55 might cause some drivability issues. you may lose the torque you need to smoothly pull away from a light, you would probably have to give it more gas to accomplish the same acceleration and have worse gas mileage

Not sure if that would work, as I do not know enough about the gears.
However, 10mpg? Seriously? If you are serious, I would check other things on the car first. That seems very low to me. When I got my current DPB with the 4.10's, I managed to get about 13 mpg on the first tank -- I was enjoying the car! :burnout:
However, even in my commute in the SF Bay Area, I average 17.6 mpg consistently. I am not that easy on her; cruise at 72-75 mph, enjoy the go pedal on the on ramps and with all that, like I said, I get 17.6.
It sounds like you might have other issues. When was the last time fuel filter was changed, tune up etc ...
Just my unasked for advice. :D

If you change gearing, you will need a tune so the trans knows where and when to shift. A tune costs around $400 plus the cost of the gears and install cost of $400 to $600 to gain maybe a couple miles per gallon. That $1000 dollars buys alot of gas. I'm not sure, but maybe it could be tuned to run on 87 octane thus saving 20 cents per gallon..someone else here should know if that is possible. plus a tune for the gears you have will make the trans work more efficiently

Trade your Marauder for one of these before you go butchering it.

If you go to a higher gear (lower numerical ratio) in a Marauder, why not just change to a 20 or 22 inch tire, as that will raise the effective ratio.
However, if you do that, be prepared for sucky low end response. 4V motors aren't real torquey on the low end, hence the 3.55's from the factory.
FWIW, 10 mpg average sounds real low for a stock MM. I'm SC'd and drive with "vigor" (;)) around town, and I'm averaging 13+, around 20 on the highway.

Buy a 4cyl car to save gas.
Something sounds wrong if you are only getting 10mpgs.

You surely dont want anything lower then the stock gears or you will find overall mpg worse then ever as youre gonna eat up fuel just getting a sled like these moving..

what about a tuner or superchip set for economic gains.

I've heard even slapping a supercharger on, you end up with better gas mileage on the highway because the stock tune is that bad.
I'd be looking at the tune first. Even a performance one. Might be cheaper and you give up nothing.

I don't believe I have ever seen 10 MPG in mine.
Tune (93), 410's, CAI and UD's.

Nope. The drive from my parent's house to my brother's house is exactly 200 miles, with a bout 195 of it being flat freeway, so it makes a good test of highway fuel economy. Pre-Trilogy I got 26, post-Trilogy I got 22 with all other variables the same (speed, temperature, traffic conditions, etc.).

yeah i dont no what i was thinking, im not real certain its actually 10mpg but maybe closer to 15.. i try to hardly ever mash the gas since theres traffic lights here every 1/2 mile but i might look into fuel filter, tune up and maybe some exhaust work

Yeah, dude...you most definitely don't want 2.90s...it would be like driving around with a trunk full of lead anvils. The stock 3.55s are a compromise to begin with as the car was *supposed* to have 3.73s or 4.10s from the factory according to Steve Babcock. If you're only getting 10 MPG you have something else seriously wrong, either with the car or your driving style.

You could also just get a gas saving tune for $400 and call it a day.

It's all in the tune. I went from 21.5 bone stock to 22.5 with the stock T kit, then I went to 23.5 after my aggresive tune with supporting mods.

Plus twenty billion.
Don't ruin the car to save a couple hundred bucks a year. Besides if you are only getting 10mpg there is something wrong. Supercharged Marauders do better than that.
You can always buy a hybrid, the rest of us need your gas
