Im going to Jump in with the knowledge that no one has discussed this. How many members have or are going to have Remote starters installed? Im wondering because, and this might be of intrest to the new 04 MM Im having an aftermarket(Crimestopper)R.S.( remote starter) installed in my other halfs 04 Ford escape and the tech called and told me that the Electronic Module that is used to scan the factory chiped key will not work for the 04 Fords. It will work for the 03 F/L/M. this is because Ford changed the chips in the keys in 2004. for those that didn't know, if the chip in the key is kept in the bitter cold(for those of us that live in the extreme cold states)the scan module in the colum can't read it thus preventing your veh: from starting for that early morning 10-20 minute warm up. Again Im Just wondering has anyone of the members had this problem or having this problem ? :help:

Hey, as an installer, that is a new one to me, you shouldnt have any problems doing a remote start, but if the case is tru with the cold key problem. that could be fixed fairly easy. The key sits inside a plastic box that has a relay and coil in it. If this box got wrapped up in some insulation. that would prevent the key from getting "bitter cold" and you should have no problems. The box they normally put the key in is a dei 555U bypass. just make sure they insulate this box, its about 4x2x1 in size, so its not that big. hope this helps,

I do not see this as a "issue" The car starts from a remote location. (house, office) When you arrive the key will be "warm" because you will have been inside?
Thanks for the heads up.

The key were refering to is the one that gets buried inside of your dash. because our marauder keys have a transponder in them(a tiny chip which gives of an RF signal to the key cylinder). one key must remain in the car so it can "send" the signal to the key cylinder. The key that stays in the car is usually shaved so it cant be used to turn the ignition. Its placed inside of a box (555u) that gets activated by the remote start. This box(555u) also has an rf loop which goes around the key cylinder so when the box(555u) gets the signal from the remote start, the chip, inside the box(555u), sends the rf signal to the key cylinder! (what a mouthful to say! LOL). hopefully this explains our "sophisticated" passive security system on our cars!!

Have not had this problem on mine. Granted, we haven't had the bitter (minus) temperatures as others in the north have had., But it's been in single digits here. This year as well as last winter, we had some cold days. The car sits outside every night as I work the grave shift, so it's out during the coldest period of the day. Again, I haven't had this problem, but thanks for the 411 on it.

This sounds like a good idea, but.....
The key itself generates no heat, so wrapping it in insulation may prevent it from getting cold as quick (if it were warm to start with in the first place), but eventually as the car loses its heat (which it will pretty quickly), the key will be down to the cold temps, insulation or not. Right?
