You freakin' animals, all of you. Such cars! Such power!!

I've been driving a Saturn LW2 for 9 years now. When I finally realised I could really drive whatever I wanted, within a reasonable budget, I started thinking about what my favorite cars have been.

First car? 1978 Fiesta. Red. Awesome. Handled like a roller skate and I learned about keeping momentum up through corners. Burned it down when my ghetto stereo exploded...

Then on to my RWD phase. 1972 Cutlass S. Yellow, rusty, loud duals, bald tires. Learned how to drive on ice and snow with zero traction. 1965 Bonneville w/ 389HO package. Huge, beautiful, powerful. Broke down and whilst in the middle of repairs, vandalized and parts stolen. Scrapped. 1978 Buick Electra. Big, comfy, fast hiway flyer. Couch on a rocket. 8-track.

Then, mediocrity...A Camry...A Jetta...A Ram D50...then the Saturn.

Which brings us back to a few months ago when I remembered the Marauder from way back in 03. In 2003 I bought that Saturn on a salvage title with 43K on the flaky digital odometer. It's been great, really, because I pay attention to what my cars tell me they need. Oil. Parts. A wash. Not too hard. Also in 2003, Mercury popped the Marauder onto the market. I had no idea that even happened. Irrelevant, really, as I never spend more than $10K on my own car. Marauders would never pop on my radar.

But these days...they do. And I found one. I pick it up Saturday at 2PM and I'll drive it 6 hours back to Minneapolis.

More later.

Thanks for making a community for these cars enjoyable to read and hopefully I'll be able to contribute as I learn more.

My 10-year old daughter is coming along for the ride. She's freaking out.

Me: "Whaaaat kind of car are we getting?"

She: "A Mercury"

Me: "Good. A Mercury what?

She: "....Marauder!"

Good girl.

Can't wait to drop her off / pick her up from school a few times. I'm already a big hit with the kids because I'm one of those goofy dads that likes to have a good time / disciplinarian in a friendly bi-polar kinda way. Rolling up in this thing should give my daughter a whole new level of "dayum" from her peers.

In fact, if it wasn't going to be a 'rauder, it was going to be a Lincoln or a 740il. I work downtown occasionally and these sleek limo-style freeway kings just grab my attention to no end, especially when blacked out and clean.

A tune will really wake the car up.

The start saving your bucks, 'cause once the mod bug bites, you're hooked. ;)

Yep - Mine was red, a friend liked mine so much he later got a Ghia in Yellow.

Tough son of a *****, that car. I had to hotwire it when I lost the keys once. Never let a friend drive your hotwired Fiesta - he left the starter wire engaged and drove it that way for a few miles...

I always ended up busting my ass roller skating. I think the last time I went I was banned because I busted my ass (surprise) and the half pint of Jim Beam in my back pocket shattered. Ahhhh, the early 80's. Good times!

Weather was great. Ears are ringing a little from 850 miles of duals bellowing through a wicked headwind.

Hiho's 2003 300a is mine now.

Pics to come, along with some harrowing tales from the road. Well, Effingham, Il., to be exact.

Car never skipped a beat and rolled 78,000 on the way up from Nashville.

Oh, and this isn't the car listed in the title of this thread, as that car was in Omaha. I should figure out the production # of this one.
